THE STRATEGIC MISSION

In the humanitarian world, medicine cannot happen without logistics. MSF is seeking a highly skilled Logistics Technician to ensure the autonomous maintenance, repair, and optimization of all project equipment in Anambra. From complex electrical grids to life-saving biomedical devices in ITFC/ATFC units, you will be the technical anchor that keeps our medical facilities running at MSF standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Advanced Technical Maintenance

  • Multidisciplinary Repairs: Perform complex installations and repairs across three primary domains: Electrical, Mechanical, and Biomedical.
  • Biomedical Oversight: Ensure daily monitoring and maintenance of ITFC and ATFC biomedical devices, implementing standard management procedures.
  • Systems Management: Oversee cold chain, plumbing, and construction follow-up, ensuring all systems meet International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) guidelines.

2. Team Leadership & Capacity Building

  • User Training: Improve the autonomy of medical staff in the operation and basic maintenance of biomedical equipment.
  • Supervision: Lead small teams of workers and support the Logistics Supervisor, serving as a backup when required.
  • Safety: Maintain and record the inventory of safety equipment, including fire extinguishers and specialized tools.

3. Asset & Stock Management

  • Inventory Control: Conduct physical inventories of electrical and biomedical stock in coordination with the Supply team.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed reports before and after maintenance work; maintain rigorous logs to prevent loss, damage, or theft.

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS

Education & Qualifications

  • Essential: Engineering Degree (Bachelor’s in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering) or recognized MSF training in an assigned technical area.
  • Certifications: Valid NYSC Discharge Certificate or Exemption Letter is mandatory.

Experience & Skills

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of specialized logistics experience.
  • NGO Background: Prior experience with MSF or other international NGOs in a developing-country context is a significant advantage.
  • Technical Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD is highly desired.
  • Standards: Strong knowledge of MSF electrical systems and IEC guidelines.

Candidate Guide: Success as an MSF Logistics Technician

The Logistics Technician role at MSF is “hands-on” and requires more than just theoretical engineering knowledge. To stand out, you must demonstrate a “Fix-It” mindset and high accountability.

1. The “Three Pillars” of Expertise

In this role, you aren’t just one type of engineer. You need to speak the language of:

  • The Electrician: Can you troubleshoot a solar-hybrid power system or a large generator?
  • The Biomedical Tech: Do you understand how to calibrate an oxygen concentrator or a pulse oximeter?
  • The Logistician: Can you manage a stock card for spare parts while simultaneously supervising a construction site?

2. Focus on ITFC/ATFC Units

Since this role supports Inpatient/Outpatient Therapeutic Feeding Centres, the reliability of equipment is life-or-death.

  • Criticality: A failure in the cold chain (refrigeration) can ruin thousands of vaccines or therapeutic milks.
  • Training: You will be expected to teach nurses how to use equipment properly to prevent “user-error” breakdowns.

3. Interview Preparation Tips

  • Safety First: Be prepared to discuss how you implement safety protocols while working on high-voltage systems.
  • Resourcefulness: MSF often works in remote areas. How do you solve a technical problem when the exact spare part isn’t immediately available?
  • Reporting: Be ready to show that you are disciplined with paperwork. MSF values technicians who log every repair and update every stock card.

4. Administrative Reminder

NYSC Status: In Nigeria, MSF requires proof of NYSC completion or exemption. Ensure this is scanned and attached to your application, or you may be automatically disqualified.

Good luck—your technical skills keep the mission alive!

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Your application must include:

  1. Cover Letter
  2. Updated Resume/CV
  3. Copies of relevant Certificates
