ABOUT THE ROLE

​Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is seeking a compassionate and proactive Community Health Educator to join our team in Jahun. This role is central to our mission of improving maternal and child health. You will be the vital link between our Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) services and the community, ensuring that patients and caregivers are empowered with life-saving health information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Health Promotion & Education

  • ​Deliver high-impact awareness sessions on hygiene, disease prevention, nutrition, and available medical services.
  • ​Provide targeted health messages within hospital units (ANC, PNC, Wards, and Labs) aligned with medical objectives.
  • ​Facilitate food demonstrations and basic nutrition education for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

2. Patient Orientation & Advocacy

  • ​Orient patients and caregivers on hospital regulations, patient rights, and safeguarding protocols.
  • ​Support the consent process and coordinate communication between medical teams and families, ensuring culturally appropriate practices.
  • ​Collect feedback via surveys and exit interviews to identify gaps in hygiene, water, and sanitation facilities.

3. Community Monitoring & Referrals

  • ​Conduct regular screenings and monitoring of living conditions to identify nutritional or social risks.
  • ​Track population movements and vaccination follow-ups within the community.
  • ​Identify individuals with urgent medical needs and coordinate timely referrals to the medical team.

4. Data & Reporting

  • ​Collect, compile, and report daily health indicators to the HPCE Supervisor.
  • ​Ensure all communication tools are culturally appropriate and utilized in local languages.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Relevant academic documents (Note: Primary School certificates are not accepted).
  • Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to speak local languages fluently.
  • Attributes: Cultural sensitivity, empathy, and a strong commitment to MSF’s humanitarian principles.
