1. PROJECT OVERVIEW
The West African Centre for Public Health and Development (WACPHD), in collaboration with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), is implementing the Integrated Biological and Behavioural Surveillance Survey (IBBSS) 2026.
This nationally representative survey generates critical biological and behavioural data among key populations (FSW, MSM, and PWID) to support evidence-based planning and strengthen Nigeria’s national HIV prevention and care interventions.
2. THE ROLE: LABORATORIAN
The Laboratorian is responsible for the biological data collection phase of the survey. This role requires a blend of high-level technical precision and field adaptability.
Key Responsibilities
- Biological Data Collection: Collect blood samples and carry out recommended serological tests based strictly on the national algorithm.
- Sample Management: Ensure optimal quality assurance, temporary storage, and standardized transportation of samples to designated laboratories.
- Maintenance: Calibrate, clean, and ensure the sterility of all laboratory equipment.
- Logistics: Order and maintain stocks/inventories to ensure uninterrupted field operations.
- Supervision: Work under the direct guidance of the IBBSS Field Supervisor to meet project timelines.
3. CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS
Qualifications & Licensing
- Education: Minimum of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Laboratory Science from an accredited university.
- Licensing: Must possess a current, valid practicing license (Mandatory).
- Certifications: Relevant professional certifications will be an added advantage.
Experience & Skills
- Clinical: Minimum of 3 years working experience in a Medical Laboratory, Clinic, or Hospital.
- IT Skills: Efficient computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Project Experience: Previous experience with WACPHD/IGPH projects is highly preferred.
- Residency: Current residence in the selected state is a mandatory requirement.

- South East/South South: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Rivers.
- South West: Lagos, Oyo.
- North Central/North East/North West: Benue, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Nasarawa, Taraba.
4. TECHNICAL SUCCESS FACTORS
- Algorithm Adherence: Accuracy in executing the National HIV Testing Algorithm in field conditions.
- Cold Chain Integrity: Maintaining the validity of biological samples during transit.
- Ethics & Sensitivity: Maintaining absolute confidentiality and professional conduct when engaging with Key Populations.
