We are currently recruiting qualified, passionate, and experienced candidates for the position of Medical Doctor (IPD/ITFC) to join our dedicated team in Gummi, Zamfara State.

Position Overview

The Medical Doctor will provide quality inpatient and outpatient medical care in line with MSF medical protocols and universal hygiene standards. The successful candidate will support diagnosis, treatment, patient follow-up, and emergency response activities while ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care: Conduct thorough medical consultations, clinical assessments, and daily follow-up visits.
  • Protocol Adherence: Diagnose and manage patient cases in strict compliance with established MSF treatment protocols.
  • Supervision & Monitoring: Oversee inpatient and outpatient care activities, monitor patient progress closely, and adjust treatments dynamically.
  • Stewardship: Ensure the rational prescription and responsible stewardship of antibiotics.
  • Quality Assurance: Active participation in mortality reviews, clinical meetings, and case discussions to improve care quality.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed, accurate medical documentation and ensure proper incident reporting.
  • Infection Control: Actively support and implement infection prevention and control (IPC) measures.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor, supervise, and support multidisciplinary medical staff.
  • Collaboration: Partner effectively with nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, mental health, and health promotion teams.
  • Communication: Provide clear, compassionate explanations regarding diagnoses and treatment plans to caregivers.
  • Psychological Support: Offer initial psychological support and facilitate appropriate referrals as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education

  • Required: Medical Doctor Degree (MBBS or equivalent).
  • Required: Valid practicing license from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
  • Asset: Additional qualification in Tropical Medicine is highly advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Prior experience in any of the following fields is highly desirable:
    • Pediatrics IPD (Inpatient Department)
    • Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) Management / ITFC
    • Public Health
    • Infectious Diseases, HIV/AIDS, or Tuberculosis (TB)
    • General Medicine

Languages

  • Fluency in the mission language (English) is essential.
  • Spoken Hausa is mandatory.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet/email applications).
  • Outstanding teamwork, high flexibility, strong commitment to humanitarian principles, and team management skills.
