Position Summary
ALIMA is looking for dedicated professionals to implement the OptiMA/GiveWell community strategy in Kaita as a field-level coverage, follow-up, accountability, and control function. The Community Mobilizer will strengthen early identification and referral of children with acute malnutrition, manage Family MUAC and community participation, ensure timely follow-up of missed visits and non-respondents, maintain safe linkage to care, and oversee evidence-based monitoring of PPN/RUTF use.
Key Responsibilities
- Community Strategy & Mobilization: Implement approved community engagement workplans, update community maps across 10 operational zones, adapt visit intensities based on village risk classifications, and facilitate respectful community dialogues.
- Screening & Referrals: Conduct Family MUAC training sessions, support active case finding, document referred children accurately, and follow referral pathways to facility or mobile clinic points.
- Volunteer Coordination: Organize Community Volunteer Focal Points (CVFPs), provide field coaching, verify household visits, and brief teams on PSEA/safeguarding and conflict-of-interest prohibitions.
- Defaulter Tracking & Follow-up: Prioritize high-risk missed visits, execute tracing within 24 to 48 hours, manage consent withdrawals through confidential counseling, and investigate barriers for non-respondents.
- RUTF Integrity Controls: Support residence verifications for new admissions, participate in random household end-use monitoring, record factual findings regarding RUTF use without blame, and escalate diversion signals through corrective action pathways.
- Accountability & Safeguarding: Promote accessible feedback channels, collect community rumours, immediately refer PSEA concerns through confidential pathways, and maintain a patient-centered approach.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain complete community documentation, consolidate weekly alerts, collaborate with Data/M&E teams on monthly zone scorecards, and participate in weekly coordination reviews.
Candidate Requirements
- Education:
- Essential: Secondary school diploma or equivalent.Desirable: Diploma or bachelor-level training in social sciences, social work, behavioural sciences, public health, community health, nursing, nutrition, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in community mobilization, health promotion, community engagement, or social/community work, with humanitarian or NGO experience strongly preferred. Experience in nutrition/CMAM/OptiMA, Family MUAC, and RUTF end-use monitoring is a strong asset.Skills: Strong facilitation, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills; high standards of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality; basic computer literacy in Word and Excel. Experience with digital data collection tools (e.g., ComCare/ODK) is an asset.Languages: Fluency in Hausa is essential; working proficiency in English is essential.
