Job Title: Integrated Management of Childhood Illness Trainer

Locations: Abuja, Abakaliki – Ebonyi, and Birnin Kebbi – Kebbi

Key Responsibilities

  • Equip participants with updated IMCI knowledge and practical case-management skills.
  • Harmonize understanding and application of national IMCI protocols across all trainees.
  • •Facilitate hands-on sessions that will include simulations, clinical decision-making and caregiver counselling.
  • Review national IMCI chart booklet, training manuals, policies, and job aids.
  • Align training content with Jhpiego’s quality of care standards, including gender and respectful care principles.
  • Develop/adapt training agenda, session guides, presentations, and practical exercises.
  • Participate in planning meetings with Jhpiego technical teams to finalize methodology, materials, and logistics.
  • Prepare training supplies and tools needed for drills, group activities, and clinical demonstrations.
  • Deliver all training modules using adult learning methodologies and participatory approaches.
  • Facilitate hands-on sessions on:
    • Child assessment and identification of danger signs
    • Classification and appropriate treatment pathways
    • Counselling and caregiver communication
    • Nutrition assessment and feeding recommendations
    • Recording, reporting, and follow-up
  • Lead case scenarios, role plays, and practical simulations.
  • Support clinical practicum (where applicable), including bedside teaching and practice with IMCI tools.
  • Document and submit a comprehensive training report to include summary of training activities and methodologies, Pre/post-test results and analysis, Skills assessment outcomes, Identified gaps and recommendations and attendance records.

Deliverables:

  • Finalized/approved agenda, methodology, and training materials.
  • Delivery of IMCI Training across agreed locations and dates.
  • Pre-test and post-test datasets with analysis.
  • Skills assessment results with competency scoring.
  • Training materials (slides, agendas, case studies) in editable electronic formats.
  • Final Training Report meeting Jhpiego documentation standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine, Nursing, Public Health, or a child health–related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Certified IMCI facilitator or completion of national/WHO IMCI training.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience conducting IMCI trainings or paediatric case-management capacity building.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply adult learning and competency-based training methodologies.
  • Experience collaborating with government health institutions and development partners.
  • Strong report-writing, communication, and data interpretation skills.
