Job Title: Product Manager, Lydia IUD, & Progesta Injection
Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Purpose
- The Product Manager owns the brand strategy, positioning, and demand generation for Lydia IUD and Progesta Injectable across all relevant channels (hospital, retail, wholesale).
- The role is responsible for building sustained provider and consumer demand for both products — translating clinical / product attributes into compelling positioning, developing marketing and promotional materials, driving awareness and preference among health care providers and end users, and working closely with Sales and Clinical Services & Training to convert marketing activity into volume growth and market share gains.
Key Responsibilities
Brand & Product Marketing Strategy:
- Develop and own the annual marketing plan for Lydia IUD and Progesta Injectable — positioning, messaging, target segments, channel strategy, and budget.
- Define and continuously refine each product’s value proposition for both provider audiences (clinical benefits, ease of use / insertion, safety profile) and end-user/consumer audiences (convenience, discretion, efficacy, duration).
- Conduct / commission market research (provider perception studies, consumer insights, competitor benchmarking) to inform positioning and identify growth opportunities.
- Own product lifecycle marketing: launch/relaunch plans, mid-life refreshes, and sunset planning where relevant.
- Track category and competitor activity (other IUDs, injectable contraceptives) and adjust strategy to defend/grow share.
Demand Generation & Campaign Management:
- Design and execute demand generation campaigns (provider-facing and consumer-facing) across relevant channels — field promotions, health promoter / Lydia Bees activations, digital / social media, radio, point-of-care materials.
- Develop and manage below-the-line (BTL) activities: outreach campaigns, community activations, provider CMEs/detailing days, hospital/clinic engagement events.
- Where budget allows, plan above-the-line (ATL) or mass-media components in coordination with Marketing / Comms.
Provider Engagement & Detailing Support:
- Develop provider-facing detailing materials and brand education content (clinical fact sheets, insertion / administration guides, objection-handling tools) in coordination with Clinical Services & Training.
- Support field teams and health promoters with up-to-date messaging, talking points, and promotional tools for Lydia IUD and Progesta.
- Partner with Clinical Services & Training to align marketing messaging with LARC / injectable training content so providers who are trained are also equipped to promote the products to their clients.
- Engage key opinion leaders (KOLs) and professional associations (e.g., gynecology/family planning bodies) to build clinical credibility and advocacy for both brands.
Channel & Trade Marketing:
- Work with Retail, Wholesale, and Hospital channel teams to ensure consistent product visibility, merchandising, and messaging at point of sale / point of care.
- Develop channel-specific marketing toolkits (e.g., pharmacy/PPMV materials for Progesta, hospital-facing materials for Lydia IUD and Progesta).
- Support trade / channel partners (distributors, pharmacies, hospitals) with promotional materials, incentive concepts, and co-marketing opportunities where applicable.
- Coordinate retail audit and client profiling initiatives to identify high-potential outlets/facilities for focused marketing push.
Cross-functional Collaboration & Reporting:
- Work closely with Sales to align marketing activity with sales targets and pipeline needs, ensuring campaigns translate into volume.
- Coordinate with Regulatory & Pharmacovigilance to ensure all marketing / promotional materials are compliant (NAFDAC and other applicable regulations).
- Provide input into demand forecasting based on planned marketing activity and expected uptake.
- Track and report monthly on marketing KPIs: volume / revenue growth, market share, campaign performance, brand awareness / preference metrics.
- Manage the marketing budget for both products, ensuring efficient allocation and ROI tracking.
Key Performance Indicators
- Volume / revenue growth for Lydia IUD and Progesta Injectable against target
- Market share gain in each product’s category
- Number and reach of demand generation campaigns / activations executed
- Provider brand awareness / preference scores (via periodic surveys)
- Consumer awareness / uptake metrics where trackable
- Cost efficiency of campaigns (cost per lead / activation / unit sold)
- Quality and timeliness of marketing collateral delivered to field/sales teams
Person Specification
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Health Sciences, or a related field (MBA or postgraduate marketing qualification an advantage).
- Working knowledge of reproductive health / family planning products is a strong advantage.
Experience:
- 4 – 6 years’ experience in product / brand marketing, ideally within pharmaceutical, FMCG, or health commodities sectors.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing marketing campaigns that moved volume/market share, not just brand awareness.
- Experience marketing to both B2B/professional audiences (health care providers) and B2C/consumer audiences is highly desirable.
- Experience working with or alongside field sales/promoter teams to translate marketing into on-the-ground activation.
Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Strong grasp of marketing fundamentals: positioning, segmentation, campaign planning, budget management, ROI measurement.
- Comfortable working with both digital marketing (social, content) and traditional/field marketing (BTL activations, community outreach).
- Ability to translate clinical / technical product information into persuasive, audience-appropriate messaging.
- Data-driven — comfortable tracking KPIs, analyzing campaign performance, and adjusting plans accordingly.
- Familiarity with regulatory / compliance requirements for promotional material in the health / pharma space (NAFDAC / PCN etc.) is an advantage.
- Strong project management skills — able to run multiple campaigns and stakeholders concurrently.
Soft Skills, Personality & Attitude:
Interpersonal & Communication:
- Creative storyteller who can make clinical products (an IUD, an injectable) feel relevant and desirable to both providers and end users.
- Strong collaborator — comfortable being the connective tissue between several departments and external agencies / vendors.
- Confident presenting campaign concepts and results to internal stakeholders and, where relevant, external partners (KOLs, distributors).
Personal Drive & Attitude:
- Genuinely curious about what drives provider and consumer behavior — treats research and field feedback as fuel for better campaigns, not a formality.
- Ownership mentality — proactively spots when a campaign isn’t working and course-corrects rather than waiting to be told.
- Comfortable balancing creative ambition with budget and regulatory realities.
- Motivated by impact — sees Lydia IUD and Progesta uptake as directly tied to expanding women’s contraceptive choice, not just as a sales number.
Working Style:
- Organized and deadline-driven — juggles multiple campaigns and channel partners without dropping quality.
- Detail-oriented on compliance and messaging accuracy, given the sensitivity of reproductive health marketing.
- Adaptable — comfortable pivoting a campaign approach based on field feedback, budget shifts, or regulatory input.
Cultural / Contextual Fit:
- Sensitivity and cultural fluency in marketing family planning products across Nigeria’s diverse regional, religious, and socioeconomic contexts.
- Professional judgment in navigating any sensitivities around injectable/IUD contraception messaging in different community settings.
