General Objective 

  • Under the technical guidance of the MHPSS Advisor and the administrative supervision of the Field Coordinator/Head of Base, the MHPSS Supervisor oversees the implementation of all MHPSS activities at the base level.
  • This includes managing field staff, ensuring the quality of clinical and psychosocial interventions, monitoring data, and facilitating capacity-building initiatives.

Responsibilities and Tasks
Technical Oversight and Program Implementation:

  • Planning: Lead the daily planning and execution of MHPSS activities, ensuring alignment with project timelines and PUI standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Supervise Psychosocial Workers (PSWs) to ensure that PSS services (individual and group psychological support sessions, etc.) meet IASC guidelines.
  • Needs Assessment: Conduct routine project assessments and program reviews to identify gaps in service delivery and propose technical adjustments.
  • Logistics: Coordinate with the logistics department to ensure all necessary materials and spaces (e.g., OSC, WGSS, Mother-Baby Corners) are available for activities.
  • Indicator Tracking: Monitor performance indicators and report progress to the MHPSS Advisor, highlighting implementation challenges and proposing solutions.

Team Management and Capacity Building:

  • Supervision: Provide day-to-day management for the PSS team, ensuring adherence to internal PUI rules and humanitarian principles.
  • Technical Coaching: Conduct regular on-the-job coaching and “shadowing” during PSS sessions to provide constructive feedback to staff.
  • Training: Identify training needs and deliver basic MHPSS training/refreshers for PSWs, Protection and Health/Nutrition staff on topics like Psychological First Aid (PFA) and the MHPSS referral pathway.
  • Clinical Supervision: Lead weekly case management meetings and case conferencing to discuss complex cases and ensure staff wellbeing (preventing burnout).
  • HR Support: Participate in the recruitment and performance appraisal of the MHPSS field team.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Data Management: Oversee the collection and entry of weekly activity data into the MHPSS database, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Reporting: Compile monthly quantitative and qualitative reports on MHPSS activities, challenges, and successes.
  • Referral Tracking: Monitor the internal and external referral system to ensure beneficiaries receive specialized care (e.g., psychiatric or protection services) and follow up on outcomes.

Internal and external representation;

  • Multisectoral Integration: Apply an MHPSS Lens to ensure psychosocial support is effectively streamlined across Protection, Health, Nutrition, and Livelihoods interventions at the field level.
  • Internal Coordination: Actively participate in regular MHPSS Department meetings chaired by the MHPSS Technical Advisor (TA) to provide operational updates, collaboratively resolve implementation challenges, and contribute to the team’s ongoing technical capacity building.
  • External Representation: Actively represent PUI in local MHPSS Technical Working Groups (TWGs) and cluster coordination meetings as delegated by the Advisor.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain strategic professional relationships with community leaders, NGOs, and Ministry of Health (MoH) stakeholders to enhance program synergy.
