1. Communication & Social Media Volunteer

This role is focused on brand visibility, storytelling, and digital engagement. Your primary goal is to translate the impact of UWGN’s work into compelling content that inspires people to give, advocate, and volunteer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation: Draft engaging posts, stories, and updates for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), and LinkedIn.
  • Impact Storytelling: Interview beneficiaries (e.g., students in the STEP program or health initiative recipients) to write “Success Stories” that highlight the human impact of the organization.
  • Community Management: Monitor social media channels, respond to comments/inquiries, and engage with followers to build a vibrant online community.
  • Event Coverage: Provide live coverage (photos, videos, live tweets) for UWGN events, such as the Skills to Employment Program (STEP) graduations or community health outreaches.
  • Graphic Design Support: Assist in creating visual assets using tools like Canva or Adobe Suite to maintain a professional and consistent brand look.
  • Newsletter & Awareness: Assist in drafting content for the monthly newsletter and digital campaigns aimed at raising awareness for specific social issues in Nigeria.

2. Program Volunteer

This role is more “on-the-ground” and operational. You will support the planning, execution, and monitoring of specific initiatives like the Skills to Employment Program (STEP) or Financial Literacy workshops.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administrative Support: Assist Program Officers with data entry, filing beneficiary records, and organizing logistics for upcoming workshops or training sessions.
  • Facilitation & Training: Support trainers during workshops (e.g., digital skills or vocational training). This may include setting up the venue, managing attendance, and assisting participants with exercises.
  • Beneficiary Engagement: Serve as a point of contact for program participants, helping to collect feedback and ensure they have the resources needed for the program.
  • Field Monitoring: Assist in visiting project sites (schools, community centers) to observe program implementation and report back on progress or challenges.
  • Partner Coordination: Support the team in communicating with NGOs, corporate partners, and local government stakeholders involved in joint projects.
  • Data Collection: Help distribute and collect surveys or assessment forms to measure the effectiveness of the programs.

  • Mission Alignment: Understand the core pillars (Education, Health, Financial Stability) and communicate the “United Way” message accurately.
  • Non-Judgmental Service: Provide care and service to all beneficiaries without bias regarding race, religion, or economic status.
  • Communication: Maintain open channels with the Volunteer Engagement Executive and seek guidance when in doubt.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Minimum Degree: Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BSc) or Higher National Diploma (HND).
  • Preferred Fields: Social Sciences, Project Management, Public Health, Sociology, or Business Administration.
  • Cause Area Alignment: Academic or professional background in Education, Health, or Financial/Economic development is highly preferred.

Technical & Skills Requirements:

  • Project Management: Basic understanding of project lifecycles (planning, implementation, and monitoring).
  • Data Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for tracking beneficiary data and attendance.
  • Administrative Skills: Ability to draft professional reports and manage workshop logistics.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal communication for engaging with community stakeholders and program beneficiaries.
  • Physical Presence: Ability to commute to community sites or the Lagos office for on-the-ground program execution.
