Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hygiene & Safety: Implement universal hygiene standards, bio-hazard prevention, and infection control protocols. Ensure high standards of hygiene in the working environment and strictly respect medical confidentiality.
  • Clinical Care: Organize and carry out treatments according to medical prescriptions; assist during consultations, daily rounds, and medical procedures.
  • Patient Support: Ensure patients are received and installed comfortably; assist those with limited autonomy with feeding, personal hygiene, and movement.
  • Emergency & Triage: (For ER/OPD) Perform triage in waiting areas and wards to detect priority acute/emergency cases and provide immediate first aid care.
  • SGBV & PEP: Identify victims of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and refer them for treatment. Maintain awareness of Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) kit protocols.
  • Administration: Maintain accurate patient files, consumption records, statistics, and registers. Ensure comprehensive written and oral handovers during shift changes.
  • Pharmacy & Equipment: Supervise medical equipment maintenance and pharmacy stock (inventories, expiry follow-up). Perform minor maintenance on biomedical equipment as per manuals.
  • Supervision: Train and supervise nurse-aids, nutrition assistants, and cleaners, ensuring adherence to MSF protocols.

Context-Specific Accountabilities

  • Triage Management: Rapidly identify life-threatening conditions (Priority 1), serious conditions (Priority 2), and routine cases (Priority 3).
  • Specialized Care: Provide routine nursing care to ATFC and ITFC patients as per medical prescriptions and Nutritional Technical Support (NTS) recommendations.
  • Emergency Response: Assist the ER team in the resuscitation of critical patients and provide in-depth handovers to receiving departments.
  • IPC Compliance: Maintain Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures and ensure correct waste segregation using the designated bucket system.
  • Lab Coordination: Manage sample collection and ensure proper handover to the laboratory.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSC) or Diploma in Nursing is essential. Must possess a valid license to practice.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing practice experience with MSF, another INGO/NGO, or a private medical facility. Demonstrable experience in supervision and training is required.
  • Languages: English (Essential); Local language (Hausa) is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge: Average knowledge of malnutrition case management protocols.
  • Competencies: Results and quality orientation, teamwork, behavioral flexibility, commitment to MSF principles, and stress management.
