We are seeking a seasoned and highly experienced Program Technical Advisor to provide specialized leadership and technical guidance for our agricultural programs in Nigeria. This role is central to driving strategic work plans, ensuring quality implementation, and strengthening local partner capacity.

The Strategic Role: Program Technical Advisor

Based in Nigeria, the Program Technical Advisor is a vital management position responsible for the technical fidelity and successful implementation of zonal activities. You will report directly to the Deputy Chief of Party (DCoP), serving as the key technical expert for agricultural programming.

What You Will Lead and Supervise:

This position requires a deep technical background and proven supervisory skills:

  • Technical Guidance & Capacity Strengthening: Lead the development and implementation of zonal work plans, providing expert technical guidance to ensure program objectives are met effectively.
  • Supervision and Coaching: Provide direct technical supervision and capacity strengthening to the team of Agricultural Extension Officers across their respective zones.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Ensure strong, proactive engagement with local stakeholders, partners, and relevant government agencies.
  • Quality Control: Guarantee that all field operations align with best practices and stringent donor compliance standards.

Specialized Technical Expertise Required

The successful candidate must possess verifiable, hands-on experience in the following specific areas:

Technical Area Required Expertise
Cocoa Value Chain 5-7 years demonstrated experience in full cocoa field operations, spanning from nursery management to harvesting and buyback.
Field Management Practical experience managing large-scale farmer out-grower or contract farming schemes and delivering agricultural extension services.
Sustainability Deep technical knowledge of Natural Resources Management (NRM), agro-climate, soil fertility, disease/pest control, and farmer organization strengthening.
Compliance & Markets Proven experience working with donor-funded NGOs and familiarity with cocoa certification/sustainability programs and market development (linking producers to markets).
Traceability Mandatory technical expertise in the implementation and management of the cocoa traceability system and cropping.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences, Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, or a relevant field.
  • Experience: 5–7 years of demonstrated technical experience as detailed above, preferably within the international development or NGO sector.
  • Soft Skills: Demonstrated ability to use analytical skills, meet tight deadlines, manage multiple simultaneous projects, and possess strong community/cross-cultural communication skills.
