About the Program
The Building Precision Dairy Models in Nigeria (BuPreDMiN) project is a 4-year initiative aimed at creating a productive, inclusive, and environmentally responsible dairy value chain in Nigeria. Through innovative approaches and strategic partnerships, the project is increasing incomes, strengthening resilience, and reducing the carbon footprint of local dairy farmers across Oyo, Ogun, and Osun states.

The Role: Senior Dairy Productivity Advisor
You will play a key leadership role in transforming the local dairy landscape. Working closely with the Senior Program Manager, you’ll support a team of Dairy Productivity Advisors in driving sustainable increases in milk yield and quality among smallholder herders. Your role will combine technical expertise, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and field leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Project Inception Phase

  • Coordinate the enrollment of smallholder herders into Danone’s backward integration dairy model.

  • Collaborate with Gender, Youth, and MEL teams to develop gender-focused KPIs for herder participation.

  • Draft job descriptions and guide recruitment of local community trainers to support grassroots training.

  • Design support frameworks to help advisors establish self-help groups focused on training, milk collection, and supply systems.

Project Implementation Phase

  • Develop scopes of work and operational plans for Dairy Productivity Advisors in alignment with TechnoServe’s values and project strategy.

  • Scale up herder enrollment efforts and ensure effective implementation of Danone integration.

  • Build the capacity of field advisors to mentor local trainers and herders on dairy business best practices.

  • Collaborate with the Milk Collection Centre (MCC) Manager to improve milk quality and volume through targeted training and advisory efforts.

  • Facilitate financial inclusion by engaging banks and microfinance institutions to support herders’ access to financial services.

  • Connect herders with affordable and reliable input providers (e.g., feed, medicine) to boost yields and profitability.

  • Lead regular community engagements, including town halls, to maintain strong relationships with herders and address challenges in the value chain.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Support the MEL team in field data collection, surveys, and impact assessments.

  • Develop tools and processes to help advisors track herder activities, outcomes, and KPIs.

  • Contribute to weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports for internal use and donor submission.

  • Maintain a risk register and proactively guide teams in mitigating emerging issues.

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

  • Represent TechnoServe at official events, technical meetings, and with community leaders.

  • Build strong working relationships with local stakeholders, dairy buyers, financial institutions, and service providers.

Qualifications & Experience

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Agribusiness, Animal Science, or related field with minimum 5 years relevant experience, including 3 years in the livestock (dairy, goat, cattle, sheep) value chain in southwestern Nigeria.
    OR

  • Master’s Degree in any of the above with at least 3 years of relevant experience and 2+ years in the livestock sector.

Preferred Experience:

  • Deep understanding of the dairy value chain in Nigeria.

  • Experience in project planning, livestock extension, agribusiness training, or rural marketing.

  • Familiarity with working in multicultural, community-based settings.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Skilled in facilitating community-level engagements and negotiating with local leaders.

  • Proven ability to write clear, data-informed reports and strategies.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with AppSheet or similar tools is a plus.

Languages: Fluency in English and Yoruba is required. Hausa or Fulfulde is an added advantage.
Travel Requirement: Up to 40% travel across project locations in western Nigeria.
Supervision: Direct oversight of Dairy Productivity Advisors.
