Safety and Security Assistant (Magumeri) at INTERSOS Nigeria

We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Safety and Security Assistant
Location: Magumeri, Borno
Job Purpose
- As part of the INTERSOS Security Team, this role provides support in the implementation of INTERSOS security policies, procedures, and security plans within the program implementation areas.
- The position contributes to ensuring the safety and security of staff, assets, and operations while supporting the continuity of humanitarian programs.
Responsibilties
- Liaise with local authorities, INTERSOS staff and facilitate continuity of INTERSOS Programs
- Linking & networking with communities, individuals, organizations and to help ensure INTERSOS staff and assets’ security
- Ensure the FSL project activities sites are safe for project implementation
- Ensures all project assets are safe at the field and project site
- Manage security guards at the project sites.
- Assist Security Officer in staff safety and security matters and act as a backup security focal point
- Ensure all vehicles are equipped with updated fire extinguishers, first aid kits and INTERSOS emergency numbers,
- Ensure all safety protocols and policies are implemented following the safety instructions.
- Coordinate staff movement in the field with coordination of Security officer or SFP at the field base offices
- Assist in implementing INTERSOS safety policies, protocols, and procedures under technical supervision.
- Update security communication trees and maintain staff contact information.
- Maintain relevant safety documentation, data and records for the areas of concern under technical guidance.
- Communicate Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Contingency Plans (CP), threat assessments, and other safety policies for staff.
- Ensure that appropriate access controls are in place for At INTERSOS facilities.
- Support in the completion of Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs).
- Conduct briefings and context updates
- Report all security incidents to the security officer
- Tracking the location of INTERSOS safety assets including, but not limited to, communications equipment, first aid kits, and so on.
Education & Professional Requirements
Education:
- Minimum of Diploma in relevant fields (or other fields related to social development and humanitarian work).
Experience:
- 2 years of work experience in security or related field in a humanitarian/recovery context or relevant work experience in safety and security in high risk environment.
Skills:
- Good understanding of humanitarian safety practices, procedures and principles and their application
- Experience, based on evidence, of humanitarian negotiation (with national authorities, local authorities, military forces)
- Experience in reporting and emergency response planning
- The SSA will be available 24/7 to respond to any staff concerns or incidents that might require urgent
- attention.
- Ability to use communication devices (sat phones, Thuraya’s, VHF and HF radio)
- Any other duties related to the nature of the job as directed by the supervisor.
- Familiar with the local customs and traditions.
Languages:
- English, Hausa and Kanuri.
