About the Role

  • The protection officer is responsible for implementing and managing protection, community feedback mechanisms and Accountability to Affected Population activities and engagements, and other activities within the monitoring and accountability program. The role involves working closely with beneficiaries, cooperating partners, retailers and vendors, community members and leaders, and other stakeholders to support the effective implementation of monitoring and assessment activities.

What you’ll do

  • Contribute to design and the implementation of protection activities under the supervision of the line manager.
  • Conduct protection monitoring activities at community and household levels following the project plan, organizational policies, and donor requirements using the established quantitative and qualitative tools.
  • Monitor and report protection concerns arising from WFP food assistance.
  • Report protection incidents, concerns, and challenges identified within target communities to the Protection Coordinator.
  • Contribute to timely reports (daily updates, weekly reports and Monthly report).
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports to the supervisor promptly.
  • Identify and mitigate potential protection risks related to the Monitoring and Assessment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the rights and dignity of beneficiaries.
  • Manage the project’s community Feedback Mechanisms, ensuring the community remains central to the intervention.
  • Verify data and information collected, service availability and access through interviews, direct observation and triangulation
  • Facilitate Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) among community members on selected topics.
  • Regular visits to activity sites within the LGA, ensuring comprehensive coverage of project activities.
  • Plan and implement community engagement, sensitization, information dissemination, and awareness-raising activities.
  • Contribute to the mapping of protection stakeholders and follow up with communities.
  • Identify cases of protection concerns at household and community level for referral to internal services or specialized agencies.
  • Support in planning and facilitating community members and stakeholder training, developing training materials, writing training reports and managing logistics.
  • Provide support to field monitors and other staff involved in monitoring and accountability activities.
  • Collaborate with other NGOs, government agencies, and stakeholders to coordinate WFP food assistance activities.
  • Represent eHA in meetings and other external engagements at the field level, ensuring eHA visibility.
  • Maintain and/or develop an adequate network with all relevant stakeholders at the field level to have a good analysis of the situation and updated information relevant to the work of the organization.
  • Carry out activities in line with the do no harm principle.
  • Coordinate, implement, monitor, and report on gender equality and women empowerment programs.
  • Conduct community-based dialogues and facilitate discussions on women’s rights, leadership, and gender equality.
  • Organize capacity-building workshops for stakeholders on gender issues.
  • Provide other support as required

Who you are

  • The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to successfully perform this job:

Education

  • Degree in Law, Human Rights, International Affairs, Social Sciences, or a related field.

Work Experience:

  • 2 – 3 years of relevant professional experience in protection programming in a displacement settlement.
  • Previous working experience with host communities, IDPs and returnees, and in remote environments.
  • Computer proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency in data collection and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of protection principles, likely protection concerns in the context, and best practices.
