Project Officer – Climate Resilience at Elela Care Humanitarian and Development Organization
Elela-Care Humanitarian and Development Organization is a youth-led Nigerian non-profit organisation founded in 2022 and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC No. ABJ2022/182167). We are based in Maiduguri, Borno State, and work across Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, and Benue states.
Our main focus is helping vulnerable people affected by conflict and crisis. We run programs in Protection (especially preventing gender-based violence in schools and communities), Education in Emergencies, Health and Nutrition, WASH, and Youth Empowerment. Since starting, we have reached more than 10,000 people with awareness sessions, psychosocial support, dignity kits, and case management from our activities in Borno (Magumeri, Konduga, Jere, MMC, Kaga, Gwoza and Mafa LGAs), Adamawa (Mubi, Michika, Madagali and Jimeta Yola) and Yobe (Damaturu, Gujba and Bade LGAs).
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Project Officer – Climate Resilience
Location: Michika LGA, Adamawa
Job Summary
- The Project Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation, coordination, monitoring, and reporting of the RENEW Michika project activities.
- This role ensures effective delivery of women-led interventions in biomass briquette production, energy-efficient clay stoves, tree planting, climate education, and community engagement, while maintaining donor compliance and promoting sustainability.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day implementation of project activities, including planning, coordination, monitoring, and reporting.
- Manage community mobilization, participant selection, training logistics (e.g., briquette production, stove construction, tree planting).
- Interface with project participants, local leaders, women’s cooperatives, schools, youth groups, and partners (e.g., Adamawa State Ministry of Environment for tree planting guidance and oversight).
- Conduct routine monitoring visits to track progress on key indicators (e.g., household adoption rates, tree survival, reduced firewood use), collect data, document outcomes, and prepare activity/narrative reports.
- Facilitate participatory, gender-responsive approaches using local languages and hands-on methods to build community ownership and long-term behaviour change.
- Support stakeholder engagement, risk management, visibility efforts (branded materials), and lessons learned documentation for project close-out and sustainability.
- Represent ECM in relevant local meetings and contribute to organizational learning on climate resilience and clean energy programming.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change/Development Studies, Natural Resource Management, Project Management, Social Sciences, or related field.
- 2–3 years relevant experience in NGO project implementation, preferably in climate resilience, clean energy, reforestation, community development, or environmental projects in Northeast Nigeria.
- Strong skills in activity coordination, monitoring/evaluation, data collection, report writing, and stakeholder liaison (government, communities, women’s groups).
- Excellent oral and written communication in English and Hausa; good facilitation and people skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel for tracking and reporting).
- Ability to work independently in rural field settings, with high initiative, diplomacy, tact, and flexibility.
- Commitment to ECM’s mission, values, gender equity, women’s empowerment, and climate justice principles.
Salary Range
N100,000 – N200,000 Monthly Gross.
