Safe Motherhood Ladies Association (SMLAS) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit making organization committed to empowering women, youth, and families to take responsibility for their health. For over two decades, we have utilized community-centred strategies, including capacity building, local dialogues, and engagement with traditional and community leaders, to foster health and well-being in our target communities. Our areas of focus include youth empowerment, adolescent reproductive health, nutrition interventions, family planning, capacity building, and community advocacy.

Position Summary: 

SMLAS is at a pivotal stage of implementing a comprehensive 2-year restructuring strategy (2025-2026) that will position the organization for greater impact. We are seeking a dynamic, midlevel Project Management Specialist with strong business development skills to lead the roll-out of this strategy. This role encompasses administration, advocacy, business development, and project management to strengthen SMLAS’ operations, donor engagement, and project implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

Administration:

  • Ensure compliance with statutory and legal requirements for the organization.
  • Lead organizational systems restructuring, including updating and streamlining processes.
  • Revise and standardize institutional documents such as policies, frameworks, and procedures.
  • Manage internal governance systems and documentation for audits, board reviews, etc.

Advocacy:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and community leaders.
  • Develop and implement advocacy plans aligned with SMLAS’ mission and programs.
  • Represent SMLAS in key stakeholder meetings, conferences, and events to promote organizational visibility.

Business Development:

  • Identify funding opportunities and lead proposal development, ensuring alignment with donor priorities.
  • Write high-quality concept notes, proposals, and grant applications for donor submission.
  • Lead budgeting for proposals and work with finance teams to ensure budget compliance.
  • Set up and manage cross-functional teams for project and proposal delivery.

Project Management:

  • Oversee the implementation of approved projects, ensuring they meet timelines, deliverables, and outcomes.
  • Lead field visits, needs assessments, and data collection to inform project design and execution.
  • Develop comprehensive project reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress and adapt implementation plans as necessary to achieve results.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Public Health, Social Work, Project Management or related field. Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in project management in the development sector, preferably in health or gender-based programs.
  • Proven experience in business development, including proposal writing, fundraising, and donor engagement.
  • Strong advocacy and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of successful partnerships.
  • Experience in organizational administration, governance, and compliance processes.
  • Knowledge of reproductive health, family planning, and community mobilization programs is a strong plus.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
