The Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Assistant role is critically important because it ensures the integrity of the data stream, providing the evidence needed to prove program success and adjust interventions to better meet community needs. By meticulously collecting and tracking key health and nutrition indicators at the facility and community levels, the assistant directly supports WOCHAD's capacity to deliver life-saving and life-changing services to the most vulnerable families in Ebonyi State. Job Summary WOCHAD Initiative seeks a diligent and detail-oriented Monitoring & Evaluation Assistant to actively support the implementation of the M&E system for our vital nutrition project. The successful candidate will be responsible for the routine collection, verification, and management of data related to nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions, contributing directly to accurate performance reporting and informed programmatic decision-making. What Skills Are Needed: Core Competencies Competency Description Data Handling Proficiency in data entry, verification, and maintaining accurate records and databases (registers, spreadsheets). Nutrition Knowledge Basic functional understanding of key public health nutrition concepts, including IYCF, CMAM, and growth monitoring. Fieldwork Readiness Willingness and ability to frequently travel and work closely with community volunteers, local health facility staff, and caregivers. Technical Tools Familiarity with digital data collection platforms like KoboToolbox, ODK, or DHIS2 is a strong advantage. Key Responsibilities and Deliverables The M&E Assistant will work directly in the field, focusing on the efficient and accurate capture and management of project data. 1. Data Collection and Management Provide hands-on support for the routine collection, quality verification, and timely entry of all nutrition data, including indicators related to Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), growth monitoring, Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), micronutrient supplementation, and facility referrals. Maintain and update project M&E databases, physical registers, and electronic data collection tools in preparation for analysis. Ensure all nutrition indicators are accurately tracked against established project targets and implementation workplans. 2. Quality Assurance and Field Monitoring Participate actively in supportive supervision, scheduled field monitoring visits, and Data Quality Assessments (DQAs) conducted at community and health facility levels. Support the proper execution of large-scale data collection exercises, including baseline, midline, endline surveys, and specialized rapid nutrition assessments. Ensure the systematic and compliant filing and archiving of all nutrition M&E documentation in accordance with donor and organizational standards. 3. Reporting, Documentation, and Learning Assist the MEAL team in compiling and summarizing quantitative and qualitative data for inclusion in monthly, quarterly, and official donor reports on project outputs and outcomes. Play a key role in documenting the program's learning agenda, including gathering information for success stories, case studies, and field-level lessons learned from nutrition interventions. Support the implementation of Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) mechanisms, including assisting with the functionality of feedback systems for caregivers and community structures. Professional Qualifications and Experience Education A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Monitoring & Evaluation, Statistics, or a related discipline. Experience Between 1 to 3 years of relevant experience supporting M&E functions within community health, nutrition, or Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) projects. Demonstrated basic practical understanding of common nutrition indicators and programming (IYCF, CMAM, growth monitoring). Skills and Attributes Proven ability to manage, process, and accurately summarize health and nutrition data. Exceptional attention to detail, strong sense of integrity, and commitment to maintaining the highest standard of data quality.
