Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is seeking a qualified Pharmacy Technician for a one-year definite contract, with the possibility of extension, to be based in Sokoto. The publication date for this vacancy is July 28, 2025, and applications close on August 8, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
Main Purpose of the Position: The Pharmacy Technician will support drug supply management in designated facilities under the supervision of the Mission Pharmacy Manager, adhering to MSF health policies and protocols, to ensure proper management and distribution of drugs and medical devices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stock Management and Storage:
- Assist in supervising, managing, and controlling medical stock to prevent ruptures, losses, and overstock, and monitor storage conditions.
- Ensure proper storage, stock management, hygiene, and security procedures, including pest and rodent control, to maintain good storage conditions (temperature, humidity, light exposure) in accordance with MSF protocols and national regulations.
- Manage and replenish all stocks in the Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPREP), Emergency Kits, and boxes within the project, closely monitoring expiry dates.
- Conduct regular inventories of EPREP stock during both emergency and non-emergency periods.
- Maintain the cold chain and promptly report abnormalities.
- Report missing materials, damage, or theft in a timely manner.
- Ordering, Supply, and Replenishment:
- Assist monthly with the preparation and approval of order requests, ensuring timely completion.
- Prepare Internal Requests (IRs) for field stock refills and send them to the supply team after approval from the Project Medical Referent/Medical Team Leader (PMR/MTL).
- Ensure appropriate delivery, reception, and recording of local orders in collaboration with the supply department.
- Prepare and dispatch orders for various consumption units.
- Provide timely advice on medical and drug material orders to ensure efficient consumption patterns.
- Dispensing and Distribution:
- Dispense drugs to patients according to medical prescriptions during both emergency and non-emergency responses.
- Issue medical supplies to relevant units and provide information on keeping conditions.
- Support the day-to-day management of the pharmacy store in Noma and ITFC during non-emergency periods, including order preparation, medication dispensing, and consumption tracking.
- Consumption Tracking and Reporting:
- Assist with the collection of consumption data from facilities at least monthly and gather data on patient numbers.
- Cooperate with the Pharmacy Manager on all monthly reports and provide medical data to relevant MSF team members under supervision.
- Support the NERU Project Medical Referent (PMR) in forecasting future needs.
- Keep updated records of items received and issued into EPREP stock.
- Report anomalies or changes in consumption patterns to the NERU PMR/MTL.
- Inform the NERU PMR/MTL as soon as any stock reaches the alert limit.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Ensure correct entries on stock cards and software.
- Update stock files regularly and inform line managers about shortfalls, over-stocking, and expiry dates.
- Emergency Response (EPREP):
- Prepare and update emergency response kits based on the EPREP scenario (e.g., meningitis, measles, cholera, diphtheria, displacement).
- Ensure availability and readiness of drugs and medical materials in the emergency preparedness stock.
- Monitor usage of emergency kits during deployment and ensure timely replenishment.
- Support deployment of medical items by ensuring efficient packaging, labeling, and transportation with attention to cold chain maintenance.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Education: Qualified pharmacist technician.
- Experience:
- Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting.
- Experience collaborating with local pharmacy systems (MoH and private) is an asset.
- Languages: Mission language essential; local working language is an asset.
- Knowledge: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; good computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel).
- Competencies: Commitment to MSF principles, Teamwork and Cooperation, Results and Quality oriented, Behavioural Flexibility and Stress Management.
