Opportunity – Medical Activity Manager at Medecins Sans Frontieres, France
Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an International, Private, Non-Governmental, Non-Profit Humanitarian Organization. Our organisation offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria facilitated by a Memorandum of Understanding between Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The French Section are at present co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, and State and Local government departments of health on various health projects. Our current focus is the VVF/Emergency Obstetrics Project in Jigawa State, the Provision of Primary Health Care in Borno State, and the Nutrition Project in Katsina State with coordination office in Abuja, Nigeria.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Medical Activity Manager
Location: Jahun, Jigawa

Responsibilties
- Critical follow-up on the quality of care indicators to ensure patient centred care, close monitoring of cases, review and presentation of maternal, neonatal, and near miss cases.
- Coordinating, assessing, and supervising the proper medical functioning of the project activities (Emergency Obstetric and Newborn care, VVF surgical and non-surgical interventions, Sexual Violence activities, Family planning, OPD) e.t.c according to MSF protocol, standards, and procedure.
- Participate in the formulation and regular reviewing of the project’s process tools (Triage criteria, BEmONC referral criteria, Intensive Care Unit, Newborn Unit, Pre-delivery, delivery room, In Patient Department, and VVF admission and discharge criteria.
- Participate in the decision-making process for patients to be referred to external facilities for continuation of management, financial coverage on case by case basis, follow-up and analysis on the outcomes.
- Participate and support other managers and supervisors during the international medical order for drugs, consumables, and equipment, follow-up on the stock, and indicators for consumption.
- Participate in the review and update of MOU/service agreements for external consultants (VVF surgeons, Medical anesthetist) and validated facilities including Ministry of Health (MOH)
- Coordinate, supervise, assess, and follow-up of the blood bank activities, general laboratory stock, consumable, equipment, and regular inventory.
- Coordinating and monitoring the daily working plan of the team under his/her responsibility (Medical doctors, OBGYNs, VVF surgeons, Medical anesthetists, Blood bank supervisor, Laboratory technicians).
- Implementation of the national staff health policy, coordinating and following-up with the support of the staff health doctors to conduct staff health activities (OPD consultations, admissions, referral, immunizations).
- Verification, processing, and validation of financial documents of patient referral and staff referrals for reimbursements.
- Follow-up with the LGA Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer (DSNO), State DSNO, and State Epidemiologist on diseases prone to outbreaks.
- Participate in explo mission to conduct outbreak investigation, report dissemination, planning, and coordination of intervention with the support of the coordination, Ministry of Health (MOH) and other partners.
- Collaborate with the outreach team through regular feedback from the community on the quality of services provided in the CEmONC for improvement. Support in the designing, planning, designing, and implementation of patient satisfactory surveys and community audit (maternal and neonatal).
- Support the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team in the implementation and strengthening of IPC measures in the project to improve quality of care.
- Participating in the project training need assessment, planning, identification of suitable training and participants for quality improvement.
- Plan and coordinate the VVF surgery days in collaboration with the Nursing Activity Manager, VVF unit doctor and supervisor.
- Collaborate with other managers to ensure the smooth running of the project activities.
- Support the Medical Team Leader by carrying out delegated tasks under his/her responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Interested candidates should possess an MBBS / MBChB Degree.
