Godiya Cherished Care for Humanitarian Response Initiative (GCCHRI) is a non-profit and a non-governmental organization founded in 2022 by a group of young researchers. Our core mission is to elevate community health standards through a multifaceted approach encompassing research, advocacy, health promotion and education, community development, capacity building, program evaluation, impact assessments, needs analysis, baseline/midline/endline surveys, systems strengthening, and targeted service delivery. We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Nutrition Assistant
Location: Borno
Duration: 6 Months – Extendable
Job Summary
- The Nutrition assistance will assist in implementing nutrition programs within our humanitarian setting.
- You will work closely with CNMs and under the supervision of nutrition officer to ensure that nutrition interventions are effectively integrated into broader health and food security initiatives.
- The primary focus will be on addressing malnutrition, promoting healthy eating habits, and supporting vulnerable populations, particularly women and children, in accessing essential nutrients.
Key Responsibilities
- Advocacy visit / awareness creation and engaging community stakeholders on the Nutrition project activities for community acceptance and participation.
- Monitor and supervise the CNMs to ensure activities are being carried out on site effectively.
- Plan and organize nutrition activities at designated MAM sites in liaison with the nutrition officer and other program staff.
- Conduct regular focus group discussions with beneficiaries to assess barriers to optimal IYCF uptake
- Organize and participate in food demonstration sessions periodically
- Support field level technical assessments and plan and organize GCCHRI community led supplementary program in project location site in liaison with the Nutrition Officer/Manager.
- Conduct extensive routine integrated management of acute malnutrition (IMAM) Screening using mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) tape, bilateral pitting edema detection, operating under the SOPs of the CMAM component and principles.
- Supporting targeting of beneficiaries; formation and establishment of Mother Care groups; selection of community volunteers and members of community structures.
- Work closely with care group promoters and lead mothers to ensure all aspects of the program are understood and agreed and appropriate referrals take place to and from the community to MAM sites.
- Support the development of case studies and success stories from program implementation.
- Develop network with other actors in the operational area as well as community leaders/representatives
- Educate lactating/breastfeeding mothers on maternal infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN) and effective breastfeeding positions for good mother – child bonding during breastfeeding.
- Oversee the preparation for complementary food demonstration activities.
- Respond to inquiries regarding the technical aspects of the program admission and discharge whenever necessary at the MAM sites.
- Follow-up and ensure the field team interacts with the beneficiaries and community leaders properly.
- Screen and refer Moderate acute malnutrition cases to the Tom Brown TSFP activity for 8 weeks.
- Participate in the hygiene promotion education to care givers and children at community and household level.
- Ensure Gender mainstreaming in nutrition, and integration of other sectors
- Organize and oversee the weekly / monthly MIYCN support group activities and ensure attendance data are well recorded for accountability.
- Weekly and monthly reports writing on the nutrition project activities.
- Conduct regular technical monitoring of nutrition activities and document findings to inform improvements in
- Attend refresher training on Safeguarding and commit to setting at least one Safeguarding goal each year.
Academic Qualification and Requirements
- Qualification: NCE / ND / HND/BSc
- Experience: 2 years.
