Active in Nigeria since 2016, ALIMA implements health and nutrition emergency programs, maternal and infant healthcare, epidemic response, mental health services, and operational research.

Our interventions focus on internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities, with operations in:

  • North-East: Borno (MMC and Jere LGAs), Yobe (Bade, Yusufari, Nguru, Karasuwa LGAs)

  • North-West: Katsina (Kaita, Batagarawa, Batsari, Katsina LGAs)

  • South-West: Ondo (Owo LGA)

Supervises: Mental Health Team

Position Summary

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Activity Flying Manager leads the mental health strategy and implementation of psychosocial support for patients, families, communities, and ALIMA teams.

You will ensure the mental health component functions effectively across all ALIMA projects in Nigeria and contributes to improving overall healthcare outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Implementation

  • Develop and implement ALIMA’s mental health care strategy and patient referral system.

  • Supervise psychological support services for patients, families, and staff.

  • Ensure effective psychological first aid and psychotrauma management.

  • Develop and oversee training programs for mental health staff and partners.

  • Build partnerships for referral and management of severe or chronic mental health conditions.

2. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Ensure regular monitoring of mental health activities.

  • Produce weekly activity summaries and mission reports.

  • Participate in coordination meetings and share relevant updates with the Medical Coordinator.

3. Team Management

  • Supervise and mentor mental health staff.

  • Facilitate capacity building and performance evaluations.

  • Support staff well-being through team debriefings and psychological support mechanisms.

4. Representation and Coordination

  • Strengthen partnerships with relevant mental health networks, clusters, and authorities.

  • Represent ALIMA in coordination meetings as delegated.

5. Protection and Safeguarding

  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all.

  • Ensure staff compliance with abuse prevention and protection policies.

Candidate Profile

Education

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, or equivalent.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in mental health service delivery.

  • Prior experience in humanitarian settings is essential.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver training programs.

  • Proven experience managing teams and programs across multiple sites.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Proficiency in developing psychological care plans and training modules.

  • Sound understanding of psychotrauma management.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (required).

  • Knowledge of local Nigerian languages is an asset.

Terms and Conditions

  • Contract Type: French contract

  • Duration: 6 months (renewable based on performance and funding)

  • Start Date: As soon as possible

  • Salary: According to ALIMA’s scale + experience valuation + per diem
