Malaria Consortium Recruitment 2026 – Multiple Consultant Positions (Kano)

Malaria Consortium is inviting applications from qualified and experienced professionals for multiple consultancy positions to support subnational malaria planning and health systems strengthening in Kano State, Nigeria.

The recruitment supports the development of Local Government Area (LGA) malaria operational planning tools and related frameworks aligned with the WHO Reference Manual on Sub-national Tailoring of Malaria Strategies and Nigeria’s malaria stratification framework.

These roles form part of a technical assistance assignment aimed at strengthening malaria intervention planning and implementation in Kano State.

About the Assignment

The purpose of this consultancy is to generate subnational health systems evidence to improve planning for malaria interventions in Kano State. The project focuses on tailoring malaria strategies to specific LGA contexts to optimize effectiveness, sustainability, and stakeholder ownership.

The technical assistance will support:

  • Development of LGA malaria operational planning tools
  • Creation of coordination and review frameworks
  • Modification of training and budgeting modules
  • Strengthening of data-driven planning processes

The consultants will work closely with national, state, and LGA government stakeholders to ensure alignment with government planning systems and enhance long-term sustainability.

Methodology

The assignment will adopt a human-centered design and co-creation methodology. This includes:

  • Desk review of published and grey literature, including WHO reference materials
  • Review of Nigeria’s malaria stratification framework
  • Collaborative tool development with government stakeholders
  • Iterative review and validation processes

The following consultancy roles are available:

1. Regional Planning Consultant – Optimization Tool

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct desk review of existing tools and processes
  • Develop LGA Plan Optimization Tool and Trade-off Guide
  • Develop Coordination Framework
  • Assess and improve LGA Plan Review Tool
  • Modify Planning & Budgeting Capacity Building Modules
  • Review draft tools with stakeholders
  • Revise tools based on feedback
  • Draft and finalize consultancy report

Qualifications

  • Minimum 12 years’ experience in health policy and systems strengthening
  • At least 8 years’ experience in malaria interventions in Northern Nigeria
  • Experience developing operational planning tools
  • Experience working with Ministries of Health, SMEP, SPHCDA
  • Strong report writing and Microsoft Office skills

2. Regional Planning Consultant – Coordination Framework

This role focuses on developing coordination structures to support LGA malaria operational planning and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support development of coordination framework
  • Participate in tool development and stakeholder reviews
  • Strengthen subnational planning processes
  • Finalize and validate tools

Qualifications

  • Minimum 12 years’ experience in public health systems
  • At least 8 years’ malaria project experience
  • Experience in donor-funded projects
  • Strong stakeholder engagement experience

3. Regional Planning Consultant – Modification of Training Modules

This consultant will focus on strengthening planning and budgeting capacity building materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Modify Trainer’s Manual and Trainee’s Guide
  • Integrate WHO subnational tailoring strategies
  • Ensure tools are context appropriate
  • Participate in stakeholder consultations

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in public health training module development
  • Experience working with government partners
  • Strong understanding of malaria prevention strategies

4. Senior National Consultant (Finance)

This role supports financial planning and budgeting aspects of LGA malaria operational plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop financial planning components of optimization tools
  • Modify budgeting capacity building modules
  • Support financial trade-off guidance
  • Participate in stakeholder review sessions
  • Finalize consultancy documentation

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in health financing and budgeting
  • At least 7 years’ experience in malaria projects in Northern Nigeria

5. National Consultant – Graphic Designer

The Graphic Designer will support production of professional visual materials for all operational planning tools and guides.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design infographics, charts, visual summaries
  • Translate technical data into visual formats
  • Ensure branding consistency
  • Prepare print-ready and web-optimized files
  • Revise graphics based on feedback

Qualifications
