Role Purpose

The overall aim of the role is to support the country programme (humanitarian and development) in promoting and building a ‘Safe Organization’ and zero tolerance to sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) of children and adult beneficiaries. This is achieved through awareness raising, beneficiary sensitization, and facilitating confidential reporting of child safeguarding and PSEA concerns through appropriate channels.

Key Areas of Accountability

  • Capacity Building: Identify training needs and coordinate safeguarding inductions and annual refreshers for staff, partners, and volunteers. Develop training materials and facilitate sessions (webinars, case studies, quizzes).
  • Risk Management: Conduct safeguarding risk assessments for all sectors and projects. Support the development of mitigation plans and financial activity plans for safeguarding.
  • Program Support: Review proposals through a child-safety lens and collaborate with MEAL teams to ensure compliance with safe programming indicators.
  • Investigations: Lead all aspects of safeguarding investigations regarding reported incidents and manage the online reporting system to ensure updates are current.
  • Awareness & IEC: Facilitate the translation and dissemination of Safeguarding IEC materials into local dialects and develop tailored messages for various stakeholders.
  • Monitoring: Conduct supervision visits to project, construction, and implementation sites. Maintain clear records of all parties trained in safeguarding.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: A degree in Law, Humanities, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Technical Experience: Proven experience in safeguarding, child protection, PSEA, SGBV, or MEAL, particularly within humanitarian or insecure settings.
  • Investigation Skills: Demonstrated experience in leading or participating in safeguarding investigations.
  • Communication: Strong documentation and report-writing skills in English; ability to communicate sensitive information to diverse audiences.
  • Systems: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management.
