About Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, international organization primarily composed of doctors and health sector workers. MSF provides assistance to populations in distress, victims of natural or man-made disasters, and victims of armed conflict, irrespective of race, religion, creed, or political convictions.
Main Purpose of the Role
To perform vaccinations for target populations—typically children and pregnant women—in accordance with MSF principles, values, and universal hygiene standards, with the goal of improving the health conditions of the target population.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Vaccine Administration: Ensure safe and correct administration of vaccines following specific requirements and the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) schedule.
- Cold Chain Management: Follow universal guidelines for vaccine management, check vaccine vials (content, label, expiry), and report any cold chain anomalies.
- Safety & Hygiene: Monitor for immediate adverse reactions (e.g., anaphylactic shock) and provide first aid; ensure correct disposal of sharps and medical waste.
- Education: Inform caregivers about potential side effects, return dates for subsequent doses, and provide individual health education.
- Reporting: Record vaccination details in registration books and tally sheets (Form 1); complete vaccination cards for patients.
- Stock Management: Report on consumption and order supplies regularly to prevent stock ruptures.
MSF Context-Specific Accountabilities
- Screen patients for contraindications and eligibility prior to vaccination.
- Monitor and record storage temperatures daily.
- Submit daily activity reports, including vaccination numbers and any incidents (AEFI).
- Participate in team meetings, briefings, and ongoing training sessions.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Essential: Degree in Nursing or a related medical field.
- Desirable: Bachelor’s in Nursing or Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) qualification.
Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in vaccination, EPI, or Primary Healthcare activities.
Other Requirements:
- Must be a resident of Nigeria.
- Must provide NYSC Certificate or Exemption Letter.
