Main Purpose of the Role

To prepare high-quality meals for patients, caretakers, and MSF staff in accordance with strict hygiene standards and security rules, ensuring their nutritional needs are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meal Preparation: Prepare therapeutic milk, pap, and standard meals according to daily menus and specific dietary requirements.
  • Hygiene & Safety: Strictly apply food hygiene and safety standards. Maintain the cleanliness of kitchen surfaces, utensils, equipment, and storage areas.
  • Stock Monitoring: Keep accurate records of kitchen stock consumption (sugar, flour, milk, etc.) and ensure the integrity of kitchen equipment (plates, jugs, beakers).
  • Inventory Control: Efficiently use food stocks and report any shortages, losses, or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor immediately.
  • Waste Management: Ensure the safe segregation and disposal of food waste and garbage according to MSF procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Essential: Basic literacy and numeracy.
  • Desirable: Formal cooking or catering training is considered an asset.

Experience:

  • Essential: Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a cook or kitchen assistant.
  • Asset: Experience cooking for large groups or institutions (e.g., hospitals, canteens, guesthouses, or camps).
  • Asset: Previous experience working in humanitarian or NGO settings.

Key Competencies:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other support staff (cleaners, guards, logistics).
  • Strong commitment to food quality and hygiene.
  • Reliability in following menus and meeting meal distribution timelines.
