Purpose of the Job
The IT Assistant, reporting to the IT Officer, will be responsible for providing daily IT support to staff at the Africa CDC headquarters. The role includes assisting with the smooth operation of IT systems, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and providing technical assistance to users as required.
Specific Responsibilities

Provide first-line technical support to users encountering IT-related issues.

Install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware and software applications.

Monitor and maintain computer systems and networks.
-
Respond promptly to service requests and support tickets, resolving issues efficiently.

Assist in setting up and maintaining IT infrastructure, including servers, printers, and network devices.
-
Ensure the security and integrity of IT systems through proper implementation of security measures.
-
Provide basic IT procedures and best practices training to users.
-
Document IT procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
-
Collaborate with other IT staff to implement new technologies and upgrades.

Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to the organization’s IT needs.

Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with at least 2 years of experience in providing IT support in a professional environment; or
-
Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with at least 3 years of experience in providing IT support.

Experience in regional or international organizations, international NGOs, or multinational organizations is an advantage.

Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Office Suite, and common networking protocols.

Experience with IT ticketing systems and remote support tools.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional) are a plus.

Knowledge of ITIL principles is desirable.

Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract for one year, with the first three months considered a probationary period. The contract may be renewed for another period subject to satisfactory performance, funding availability, and agreed deliverables.

Remuneration:

Internationally recruited staff: An annual lump-sum of US $55,174.63 (GSA5 Step 5), inclusive of all allowances.

Locally recruited staff: An annual lump-sum of US $22,656.97, inclusive of all allowances.
