The Internship: Finance Intern

Location: Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Duration: 6 Months

We are offering a rewarding 6-month internship program for exceptional Finance and Accounting graduates eager to launch their careers in the non-profit sector. This position is based at our headquarters in Uyo.

As a Finance Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the financial operations, compliance, and reporting functions of a complex, multi-donor organization.

Key Responsibilities (What You Will Do)

The Finance Intern will be actively involved in the following areas, under the close supervision of the Finance Manager:

  • Financial Documentation: Assist in the meticulous filing, scanning, and archiving of all financial records, ensuring audit-readiness and compliance standards are met.
  • Transaction Processing: Support the preparation and review of payment vouchers, receipts, and journals, ensuring all supporting documentation is accurate and authorized.
  • Budget Support: Assist in monitoring budget utilization, tracking expenditures against donor-specific budgets (e.g., Global Fund, USAID), and flagging potential variances.
  • Banking & Reconciliation: Support cash and bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy between organizational records and bank statements.
  • Inventory & Asset Management: Participate in physical verification and documentation of organizational assets and inventory.
  • Audit Preparation: Assist the finance team in gathering documentation and responding to internal and external audit requests.
  • Reporting: Contribute to the collation of data necessary for periodic financial reporting to management and external partners.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A First Class or Second Class Upper (2:1) degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related disciplines.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with, or aptitude for learning, financial accounting tools.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and collaborative teamwork abilities.
  • A proactive mindset, demonstrable eagerness to learn, and a high degree of professional integrity.
  • A foundational understanding of accounting principles and financial strategy.
