In the rapidly evolving landscape of humanitarian aid, the ability to turn complex data into immediate, life-saving action is paramount. The AREMS (Agentic Risk & Environmental Management System) initiative represents a paradigm shift, utilizing cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence to bridge the gap between high-level data analysis and the practical needs of first responders. By joining this mission, you will lead the charge in ensuring that advanced technology serves the most vulnerable populations, transforming how risk is managed and how aid is delivered in Nigeria. Your work will empower local communities and humanitarian actors with the digital tools necessary to anticipate crises and respond with unprecedented precision.
Job Summary
The Humanitarian Coordinator serves as the strategic lead and primary link between the Nigerian humanitarian community and our global technical development team. In this pivotal role, you will drive the local adoption and contextualization of the AREMS platform, ensuring that its AI-driven insights are perfectly aligned with the operational realities of the field. You will be responsible for translating community needs into technical requirements, fostering high-level partnerships, and championing a data-driven culture that prioritizes the voices of affected populations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Diplomacy & Stakeholder Management
- Mission Representation: Act as the face of the AREMS initiative in Nigeria, cultivating influential relationships with UN agencies, international NGOs, government bodies, and traditional community leaders.
- Coordination Leadership: Represent the project within humanitarian clusters and inter-agency forums to ensure our digital tools align with the National Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP).
- Advocacy: Drive the widespread adoption of the platform by demonstrating its tangible value in improving operational efficiency and decision-making for partners.
Technical Translation & Product Vision
- Needs Assessment: Lead participatory workshops and field consultations to uncover critical information gaps faced by frontline workers and vulnerable groups.
- Requirement Engineering: Translate complex field observations into clear functional specifications and “user stories” for our AI and software engineers.
- Feedback Loops: Maintain a continuous dialogue between end-users and developers to ensure iterative updates remain relevant to the Nigerian context.
Information Design & Community Power
- Insight Generation: Guide the analysis of community-sourced and formal data to identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities for anticipatory action.
- Product Development: Lead the design of accessible information products, including automated reports, thematic dashboards, and messaging-app-based alerts.
- Inclusive Engagement: Oversee a community-centric strategy that ensures affected populations are active partners in the design and implementation of the technology.
Operational Integrity
- Compliance: Ensure all field activities adhere to organizational standards regarding security, procurement, and financial transparency.
- Capacity Building: Support the training of local partners and community leaders, enabling them to navigate and utilize the AREMS platform autonomously.
Why This Role is Important
Technology is only as effective as its application. Without a dedicated Coordinator to “humanize” the AI, powerful tools risk being disconnected from the people they are meant to help. You ensure that the AI agents are asking the right questions and providing the right answers for the Sokoto context. Your role converts “big data” into “human intelligence,” making you a key architect of a more modern, responsive, and efficient humanitarian ecosystem in Nigeria.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Educational Background: A University Degree in International Relations, Humanitarian Affairs, Data Science, Information Management, or a related field.
- Humanitarian Tenure: 5 to 7 years of professional experience in the humanitarian sector, with a deep understanding of the Nigerian landscape.
- Data Specialization: At least 3 years specifically focused on data segregation, nexus programming, or anticipatory action.
- Linguistic Mastery: Full professional fluency in English and Hausa is mandatory.
- Technical Literacy: A practical grasp of modern data concepts, including Large Language Models (LLMs), cloud computing, and database management. (GCP certifications are a major advantage).
- Local Presence: Candidates must be currently resident in Sokoto or willing to relocate there at their own expense.

Benefits & Salary
- Compensation: Starting from N3,000,000 per month (Gross), depending on experience and budget availability.
- Contract: 12-month full-time employee contract with a starting date in January 2026.
- Innovation: The opportunity to work at the absolute cutting edge of AI and humanitarian technology.
Application Details
- Location: Sokoto, Nigeria.

- How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their application through our Online Recruitment Portal.
Tips for Applicants
- Highlight the “Bridge” Experience: We are looking for someone who can speak the language of both a community elder in Sokoto and a software engineer in a tech hub. Highlight times you have translated “field needs” into “technical solutions.”
- Focus on AI/Data Literacy: Don’t be afraid to detail your familiarity with LLMs or data analysis tools. This isn’t just a coordination job; it’s a tech-forward leadership role.
- Local Context Matters: Emphasize your network within the Sokoto humanitarian architecture and your ability to navigate the specific socio-political dynamics of North-West Nigeria.
Please note: Due to the urgency of this role, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the vacancy may close early if a suitable candidate is found.
