Contract Period: Definite (with possibilities of extension)

Main Purpose

With the support and guidance of the HPCE Manager, responsible for implementing the HPCE strategy / workplan, with community participation, and supervising the HPCE activities and HP teams working in the communities or the health facilities, according to the project objectives, MSF values, standards and procedures.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

HPCE strategy, activities and monitoring:

  • Actively contribute to the design/adaptation of the HPCE strategy / workplan.
  • Lead and follow up on the implementation of the HPCE strategy / workplan, according to the chronogram.
  • Support participatory approaches and regular patient/community consultations before and during implementation of
    the HPCE strategy.
  • Organizing health awareness sessions for MSF’s medical and non-medical staff
  • Support in the design of health education materials and participatory methods, applying the right process (pretesting,
    validation of content, translation).
  • Contribute to rapid assessments and surveys.
  • Actively support in the systematic collection, encoding and reporting of community feedback and rumours.
  • Support the implementation of community-based surveillance (data collection, active case finding, tracing, linkage to
    care.
  • Responsible for the planning and organization of community meetings (in collaboration with HPCE Manager).
  • Contribute to the community mapping.
  • Monitoring: Ensure the availability of the data collection tools; the data encoding in the data base and the quality
    check.
  • Monitoring: Contribute to the analysis of the monitoring data and look for adjustment (in collaboration with HPCE
    manager), monthly reporting (MMR, sitrep…).
    Team management:
  • Contribute to evaluation of the HP team (with the HPCE manager).
  • Contribute to the development plan for the HP team Training: Contribute to the need’s assessment, design and
    implementation of training for the HP team, in collaboration with the HPCE manager.
  • Organize regular and systematic supervision of the HP activities and provide on the job-coaching.
    Ensure the planning and practical organisation of the activities for the HP team (HP roaster).
  • Ensure the organisation of regular HP team meetings

MSF Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Assessing, developing and adapting IEC/HP materials according to the needs of the project, ensuring content
    and format have been pre-tested with target groups in order to ensure the adequacy, relevance, full understanding of the messages.
  • Lead and coordinate health promotion external activities and ensure the implementation of HP strategy,
    oversee team performance in Community, IDP camps, and decentralised nutrition facilities.
  • Train, supervise and support a team of MSF community volunteers and keeping strong relationship with them
  • Creating and managing team schedules through monthly rosters, leave plans to ensure proper staffing for
    smooth running of Health Promotion activities in external activity.
  • Foster teamwork and collaboration among team members and ensure proper collaboration with other actors,
    conduct routine actors mapping and updating activities of partners in the project community.
  • To contribute on the monthly, quarterly and annual situational reports regarding different HP activities.
  • Organizing monthly and emergency meeting with the community gatekeepers as the situation may be.
  • Collaborate with other MSF departments and external partners to align health promotion efforts
  • Organise and celebrate specific health days (world breastfeeding week, Global handwashing day etc,) in
    collaboration with the medical team.
  • Timely report to the HP Manager of any constrains that interfere with Health promotion activities in both TFC
    and Community.
  • Carryout/support in conducting assessment and survey when the need arises. Monitoring of HP stock and
    inventory to keep track of items.
  • Identifying key actors (local authorities, local NGOs, traditional healers, formal or informal authorities) and
    being the focal point for the networking in order to support the dissemination of health information of the
    target population. And organizing periodic meetings with between MSF and partners.
  • In collaboration with community volunteers support the implementation of community-based surveillance
    (data collection, active case finding, tracing, linkage to care in the communities and camps)

Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education

Essential: Degree in Education, social sciences, social work, public health, community health, Nursing.

Experience

  • Language

Essential: At least 2 years’ experience in health promotion in MSF.

Team management experience, program implementation, experience in qualitative
methodology is desirable.

Mission Language Essential; Kanuri and Hausa languages Desirable
