Main Purpose of the Role

To ensure high-quality healthcare and a safe environment by organizing, training, and supervising the Sterilization Technicians. The successful candidate will ensure all sterilization activities are carried out according to MSF protocols and universal hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Supervision: Lead the Sterilization Technicians, ensuring tasks are performed correctly and staff adhere to professional dressing and safety procedures.
  • Personnel Management: Organize staff shifts, holidays, and coverage needs. Brief and train new technicians on their responsibilities and sterilization duties.
  • Technical Oversight: Perform sterilization in Autoclaves and carry out “High-Level Disinfection” according to regulations. Ensure the correct identification and organization of instruments.
  • Quality Assurance: Verify that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Monitor cleaning and minor maintenance of equipment, reporting malfunctions to the biomedical service.
  • Stock & Records: Manage the stock of materials to ensure continuous supply and maintain up-to-date sterilization registers.

MSF Context-Specific Accountabilities

  • Mentorship: Act as a technical mentor by providing hands-on training and regular coaching at MSF-supported BEMONC sites to ensure consistent quality across the referral network.
  • Infection Control: Strategically allocate personnel between “dirty” (decontamination) and “clean” (packaging/sterilization) zones to prevent cross-contamination and ensure strict adherence to infection control circuits.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Essential: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of sterilization protocols.
  • Desirable: Certification in Sterile Processing is a significant advantage.

Experience:

  • Essential: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a sterilization role specifically within MSF.

Skills & Languages:

  • Languages: Essential mission language (English); local languages are desirable.
  • IT Skills: Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel, and Internet).
  • Competencies: Results-driven, committed to quality care, teamwork, behavioral flexibility, and commitment to MSF principles.
