Food Security and Livelihood Assistant at Community Health, Justice and Peace Initiative for Development (JDPH)

The Justice Development Peace and Health is a program of the Catholic Ecclesiastical Province of Jos. The program was set up to Coordinate, develop appropriate structures, offer required services, and improve the system of social development already existing in the Dioceses since 1970.

Community Health Justice and Peace Initiative for Development – JDPH requires the services of a Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) Assistant who will work under the direct supervision of the FSL Officer.

The Food Security and Livelihood Assistant will be required to travel to communities in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states throughout the duration of the project.

Contract Duration:   2 years

Location: Borno, Adamawa and Yobe

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain good relations with key stakeholders and communities in the areas of Food Security and Livelihood to know their perceptions and to understand the needs, complaints, and major events that may have an impact on the activities of JDPH under the strict supervision of the FSL Officer
  • Assist in the identification, registration, verification and selection of project beneficiaries according to defined selection criteria, as well as verification processes, in collaboration with community stakeholders’
  •  Assist the FSL Officer to conduct food security activities in the field (input distribution, training,  etc.)
  • Assist in the document field achievements, innovations, failures, and lessons learned to integrate into project activities and inform project strategy.
  • Assist the FSL Officer in implementing the FSL project activities in the field, including IGAs, VSLAs, Livestock recapitalization, Production and use of briquettes, production of organic manure, Basic Needs Assistance and Agricultural input support etc.
  • Assist in identifying the training needs among the population and propose appropriate contents and training support material for the training sessions and awareness messages to be disseminated.
  • Assist the FSL Officer in periodic FSL assessments including needs assessment, market assessments, activity feasibility assessments and any other Food Security and livelihood-related assessments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, food security, humanitarian action or any related field. 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  •  Minimum two (3) years of experience in a relevant position and experiences within (I) NGOs under food security and livelihood programming.
  • Knowledge in Food Security and livelihood, vegetable gardening, and skills development.
  • Ability for identifying, designing a project and budgeting
  • Strong working knowledge (spoken, written and reading) of English.
  •  Excellent personal organizational skills
  • Time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel to field offices and work in difficult environments according to travel requirements
  •  Good skills using MS Word, Excel,
