Job Summary

The Finance Manager will lead and coordinate mission-wide accounting and financial management activities in line with MSF standards, local legal requirements, and donor obligations. The role ensures accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting while supervising finance staff and supporting mission leadership with reliable financial information. The successful candidate will strengthen financial controls, oversee audits, and contribute to effective resource allocation across MSF operations in Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management and Accounting Oversight

  • Coordinate and supervise all mission accounting activities, including cash management, bank accounts, documentation, and treasury functions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial records, monthly closings, and consolidation of mission accounts in compliance with MSF policies.
  • Oversee weekly, monthly, and annual financial reporting, including balance sheets and accounting statements.
  • Ensure strict adherence to internal deadlines, financial standards, and legal requirements.

Donor and Contract Financial Management

  • Manage the financial aspects of donor-funded projects, including preparation and review of donor financial reports.
  • Monitor compliance with donor conditions and support amendments when required.
  • Ensure relevant departments understand and fulfill their financial and reporting responsibilities.

Compliance, Audit, and Risk Management

  • Coordinate payment of taxes and statutory obligations in line with local regulations.
  • Supervise and support internal and external audits covering finance, tax, labor, assets, and stock management.
  • Act as the technical focal point for accounting compliance, financial procedures, and MSF accounting systems.

Team Leadership and Capacity Building

  • Plan, supervise, and support the recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management of finance staff.
  • Build team capacity through coaching, knowledge sharing, and structured development plans.
  • Provide financial briefings and guidance to mission coordination, administration, and logistics teams as needed.

Advisory and Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide expert advice on accounting and financial management issues across the mission.
  • Carry out delegated finance-related tasks in line with professional expertise and mission needs.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Professional accounting certification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of four (4) years professional experience in finance or accounting roles.
  • Proven experience in organizational or mission-level accounting and financial reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with budget monitoring, cost control, and financial procedures.
  • Previous experience with MSF or another international NGO is an asset.

Technical Knowledge

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience using accounting or financial management systems is desirable.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (required).
