Global Village Healthcare Initiative for Africa (GHIV Africa) is a Non-governmental, Non-for profit humanitarian/Developmental organization which started in 2014. We deliver assistance to affected populations before, during and after crisis situations. GHIV Africa was founded to mitigate the health deficit in Africa and to provide all forms of assistance leading to improved quality of life.

The organization is equally poised to support the delivery of healthcare services at the doorsteps of every African village by bridging the gap between primary health care delivery and tertiary health care services through a robust referral system. We offer assistance in need to the most vulnerable population regardless of their religion, race, gender and or political affiliation. Our decisions as an organization are not based on political, economic or religious interest but solely on needs of the affected population.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Finance Assistant

Locations: Katsina
Job type: Contract

Job Purpose

  • The Finance Assistant will support the finance unit in ensuring effective financial management of donor-funded projects.
  • The role involves assisting with financial documentation, processing payments, maintaining financial records, supporting budget monitoring, and ensuring compliance with donor and organizational financial policies.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Transactions and Documentation:

  • Prepare payment vouchers and ensure all supporting documents are complete and properly approved.
  • Process staff advances, vendor payments, and reimbursements in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of all financial transactions.

Cash and Bank Management:

  • Assist in managing petty cash and ensure proper recording of all transactions.
  • Support preparation of bank reconciliation statements.
  • Track cash advances and ensure timely retirement of advances.

Budget Monitoring:

  • Support the Finance Manager in monitoring project budgets and expenditures.
  • Assist in tracking project spending against approved budgets.
  • Flag potential budget variances or overspending.

Financial Reporting:

  • Assist in preparing monthly financial reports.
  • Support preparation of donor financial reports and budget forecasts.
  • Ensure financial data is accurately entered into accounting systems.

Donor Compliance:

  • Ensure all financial transactions comply with donor regulations and organizational financial procedures.
  • Assist in preparing financial documentation for donor reporting requirements such as Supporting schedules.

Audit Support:

  • Assist in preparing financial documents required for internal and external audits.
  • Ensure all financial records are properly organized and easily accessible for audit review.

Financial Filing and Record Keeping:

  • Maintain both electronic and physical filing systems for finance documents.
  • Ensure financial documents are properly archived for future reference and audit purposes.
  • Carryout any duties assigned to.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA, or ATS) is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Must have 1–2 years of experience in finance or accounting, preferably within an NGO or donor-funded project.
  • Experience with donor compliance and financial reporting is an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of basic accounting and financial procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, or similar).
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong integrity, accountability, and confidentiality.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Fluency in English, Hausa and Fulani.
