Position Details

Job Title: Livelihood & Agriculture Officer
Location: Katsina State, Nigeria
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Summary

The Livelihood & Agriculture Officer will support the full cycle of agriculture and livelihood interventions, from planning to monitoring. You will be responsible for community mobilization, providing technical training, ensuring effective input distribution, facilitating market access, and integrating climate-smart and regenerative farming practices to build sustainable resilience.

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Implementation & Technical Support

Lead the implementation of livelihood activities, including distribution of agricultural inputs, starter kits, and equipment.
Oversee the establishment of demonstration farms, savings groups, and micro-enterprises.
Crucially, ensure the integration of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), regenerative farming, and ecosystem restoration across all interventions.
Conduct simple market assessments and participate in needs assessments to ensure program relevance.

2. Capacity Building & Community Engagement

Facilitate high-quality technical trainings for farmers, youth, and pastoralists on sustainable agriculture, agribusiness, value chains, and financial literacy.
Mobilize and actively engage communities, ensuring a minimum of 50% participation from women and youth.
Facilitate farmer–pastoralist dialogue to promote peaceful coexistence and equitable resource sharing.

3. Partnership and Resource Mobilization

Collaborate with Agricultural Extension Services, Ministries of Agriculture, and development partners to strengthen program sustainability and market linkages.
Contribute significantly to AYGF’s resource mobilization efforts by drafting high-quality concept notes and proposals for livelihood and agriculture initiatives.

4. Monitoring, Learning, and Reporting

Conduct routine field visits to verify activities and track progress using AYGF’s Project Tracking, Monitoring, and Accountability System (PTMAS).
Prepare detailed field reports, capture success stories, and contribute to monthly and quarterly donor reports with clear analysis and recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

Education: University degree (BSc or equivalent) in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Rural Development, Agricultural Economics, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in livelihood, agriculture, or economic empowerment programming.
Expertise: Proven experience in Climate-Smart Agriculture, agribusiness development, and community-based interventions.
Soft Skills: Strong proposal writing skills, experience preparing concept notes, and excellent facilitation/training abilities.
Context: Experience engaging smallholder farmers, women, youth, and government stakeholders.

Desired

Advanced degree in a related field.
Proficiency in Hausa and familiarity with the Katsina State communities.
Experience integrating Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) into programs.
