About the job:

Job Title: Electrician

Location: Katsina
Job type: Contract (208 working hours per month)

Main Purpose

  • Performing autonomously, specific complex / advanced installation, maintenance works and repairs depending on technician’s specialization (requiring special/qualifications/training), according to supervisor’s instructions and MSF standards and procedures, in order to ensure a proper functioning and maintenance of MSF equipment, installations and infrastructures

Job Description

  • Performing autonomously, all necessary complex / advanced installations, maintenance and repairs (i.e. requiring special qualifications/training), according to the supervisor’s instructions and executes any needed tests after any repair or maintenance. Including the following functions: Quality and Standard Electrical Works.
  • Making suggestions regarding any repair or maintenance work needed in MSF electrical installations, equipment and assisting logistics department for any relative work needed. 
  • Managing the stock of consumable items, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage.
  • Responsible for the equipment and tools, including extinguishers, checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated. 
  • Keeping working area clean and tidy.
  • Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to logistical maintenance are always completed. 
  • Preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.
  • Immediately informing the line manager of any problems that arise in the course of the work, particularly with regard to damage, loss, theft or attempted break-ins
  • Working in collaboration with other specialized technicians and workers, if necessary, or managing a small team of workers.
  • Ensuring all electrical installations in MSF facilities comply with MSF standards and performing autonomously and ensuring, all necessary complex / advanced electrical installations, maintenance and repairs, according to the supervisor’s instructions. 

This includes the following tasks: 

  • Carrying out critical rehabilitation tasks and corrective maintenance interventions and the coordination and execution of required tasks as well as installation of needed electrical equipment as defined by each project.
  • Elaborating the necessary documentation for carrying out energy installations projects (plans, list of materials, etc.)
  • Carrying out and updating the electrical installations inventory in MSF missions’ facilities and performing annual maintenance procedures and safety checks across facilities in the project. Executing any needed tests after any repair or maintenance.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Installing and putting into service material and equipment for MSF programmes:
  • Checking that the allocated areas are appropriate for the correct use of appliances (e.g. fridges, freezers, Air conditioners, washing machines, TVs, water dispensers, water pumps and). 
  • Exeption of vehicles and generators

Human Resources Office:

  • Checking that electrical installations “conform” with correct and efficient usage
  • Gathering information and documentation on equipment before installing any new items (reading the installation and user’s guides)
  • Carrying out tests and adjustments before the equipment is put into general use
  • Checking installations conform to security norms (earthed, fire extinguishers, etc.)
  • Informing his line manager without delay in the event of any problems

Carrying out the Maintenance, Follow up and Repairs on MSF’s installations or Equipment, or
those used by MSF during its activities:

  • Carrying out the maintenance and monitoring of installations (structures/facilities, electricity,plumbing…) and equipment, in accordance with the instructions given by the manufacturer and following MSF’s guides
  • Identifying the problem in the event of breakdown and reporting to his  operational/technical supervisor for advice of the next step
  • Esure timely trouble shooting and fixing of electrical problems at msf facilities according to MSF standards to guaranty the safety of all the electrical installations.
  • Ensure adequated follow with city power supply for all MSF facilities
  • Check the main water supply system ensuring that there is enough water avaialble fo  use
  • Do regular services/maintenace of all Equipments in his domain according to the instructions (Air conditioners, Water dispensers,fridges…). And make the necessary update on memo

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Keep control of the reporting document files for all equipments in an organised manner both in hard copies and data update on memo after carrying out regular maintenance
  • Responsible for the Mothly report according to maintenace schedule and pass it to his direct line manager.

Energy Consumption:

  • Ensure the City Power is operating in the appropriate manner and serving the ITFC 
  • Hospitals needs accordingly.
  • Monthly meter reading of City Power post-paid meter so as to confirm Electricity bill from
  • KEDCO and ensure the billing is correct and as per consumption.

Preventive and corrective maintenaces of cold chain and energy equipments in the project
WO for every maintenace done for each equipments registred in MEMO (both preventive
and corrective):

  • Work request from the log managers on every corrective maintenance and update excel file for maintenace.
  • Record of all spare parts used in MEMO.
  • New installation of energy and cold chain equipments should be recorded in MEMO with MEMO 
  • number and maintenance schedule update in MEMO in collaboration with country electrician..
  • Update Energy consumption (energy consumption calculation from DIRIS) monthly and share with Logistic managers and logistic team leader.
  • Update schematic diagram for new installation in Hospital and base/pharmacy.
  • Inventory of all electrical and cold chain equipments every 3 Months with the respective logistic managers and supervisors for Base, Hospital and Pharmacy)

Requirements

  • Education: Technical diploma or university degree in Electrical, Electronics, is essential.
  • Proficient user of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) is essential.
  • Experience: Practical/hands-on experience in electrical designs, electrical wiring, electrical installation is essential (minimum 2 years’ experience).
  • Essential at least two years previous working experience. Desirable in MSF or other NGOs
  • Languages Hausa and English (oral & written essential) Languages essential. Mission 
  • language is desirable.
