The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, emergency food security, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Generic Responsibilities 

  • Transport NRC staff, visitors, documents and goods/materials to designated destinations when officially approved
  • Ensure the safety and security of the passengers, the goods and the vehicle
  • Immediately report accidents, breakdowns and needs of repair and general maintenance/service
  • Respect the local traffic regulations and the NRC logistical, drivers and vehicle policies at all times
  • Maintain the logbook for all trips
  • Maintain the vehicle in proper operating condition at all times, including keeping the vehicle clean, ensuring enough fuel, checking the technical state etc.
  • In liaison with the line manager/direct supervisor, arrange for repairs and servicing
  • Ensure the assigned vehicle has all the necessary documents and equipment
  • Provide logistical support during training and workshops.

Specific Responsibilities 

  • In the event of an accident, the driver shall ensure that all steps, rules and regulations are followed, including filling in the incident report.
  • The driver is responsible for cleaning and performing the daily check on the vehicle and shall ensure that it is in a safe running condition. He/she is also responsible for checking the oil level, water level, batteries, brakes, tyres, etc; and that the vehicle is at all times equipped with a first aid kit, a good spare tyre and all prescribed tools and equipment. He/she will report promptly and in writing to NRC is some tools are missing.
  • The driver is responsible for logging in (on the logbook) all trips and ensuring that other drivers that may use the vehicle do the same.
  • The driver should ensure that the fuel tanks as a rule should always be completely full, if possible, and the quantity of litres dispensed should be properly recorded in the logbook.
  • The driver shall ensure that all required licenses, insurance cards and vehicle permits are valid and available in the vehicle including accident reports. He/she must also ensure that own driving license and other relevant driving papers are up to date.
  • The driver shall follow the instructions provided in the NRC’s Driver Manual.
  • The driver is responsible for performing minor repairs if needed while major repairs should be reported to the supervisor before planning.
  • Ensure the assigned vehicle is always in good working condition and meets NRC safety and security standards
  • Be flexible to work on any shift during 24 hrs with the day i.e. 08.00 a.m to 4.00p.m; 4.00p.m to 12.00 a.m; 12.00 a.m to 08.00 a.m including weekends and public holidays.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience from working as a driver in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Fluency in English and local languages
  • Geographical area knowledge
