National Hospital Abuja was originally designed to cater for the needs of women and children in Nigeria and the West African sub-region with a view to reduce morbidity and mortality rates, and to carry out extensive research into the peculiar causes of women and children- related diseases in Africa.
However, in order for the vast majority of Nigerians to benefit from the services and modern equipment in the Hospital, the scope of its operation was expanded to accomodate male patients. Initially christened βNational Hospital For Women And Childrenβ, the National Hospital, Abujaβ came into effect from 10 May 2000.

Job Title:Β Director of Maintenance (Works)
Grade Level:Β CONHESS 15
Location:Β Abuja
Responsibilities
- The Director of Maintenance shall be responsible to the Chief Medical Director / CEO for day-to-day general maintenance of the Hospital.
- In addition, the Director of Maintenance shall advise the Hospital on the formulation, execution and review of policies and programmes relating to Engineering, Maintenance and Facility Management.
- Perform such other functions as the Chief Medical Director may from time to time assign to him/her.
Requirements
- Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in either Electrical / Civil / Mechanical Engineering / Building / Architecture / Quantity Survey or any other relevant related course from a recognised University;
- Candidates must have not less than Twenty (20) Years of post-qualification cognate experience in a Government establishment, while working experience in a Hospital is an added advantage;
- Candidates must not be less than a Directorate Cadre Officer in a Government establishment;
- Possession of Master’s Degree or any other relevant higher degree would be an added advantage;
- Candidate must be registered with the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN); Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON); Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) or Quantity Survey Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN) or any other related professional body.
Tenure:
- The Director of Maintenance shall hold office effective from the date of appointment inclusive of any period previously served in any other organization in the Public Service, provided the officer does not attain the mandatory retirement age of Sixty (60) years or thirty-Five (35) years of service (whichever comes first) and shall not serve on post for more than eight (8) years and on such terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment.
Salary and Conditions of Service
- Salary and conditions of service shall be in accordance with the Public Service salary structure for this category of officers.
