Summary Description of the position

  • Under the joint authority of the Cooperation and Cultural Action Advisor (COCAC) and the Board of Directors (CA) of the Alliance française de Port Harcourt (AFPH), a non-profit association under local law, you are responsible of the execution of the establishment project, while ensuring the proper functioning and development of the Alliance as well as the monitoring of all the actions carried out there, in compliance with local laws.
  • Three months following your taking office, you will be given your mission letter co-signed by the General Directorate of Globalization (DGM), the president of the Board of Directors of the Alliance and the Fondation des Alliances françaises.
  • No later than six months after taking office, you must present an establishment project and a planaction subject to the approval of the board of directors and approved by the embassy, which will cover the duration of your mission.

Main activities
In this context, you will have to ensure:

  • Development, proposal and impetus of the establishment’s strategy through the development of online French courses, the permanent conquest of new audiences, particularly in companies, the consolidation of partnerships with higher establishments for the teaching of FLE.
  • Programming of 15 annual cultural events organized alongside weekly film screenings.
  • Participation in budget development, personnel management and the implementation of analysis, monitoring and evaluation tools in liaison with the board of directors.
  • Establishing close relationships with professional networks and authorities across the country such as the Rivers State Ministries of Education and Culture,higher education establishments, the local association of French teachers, French companies (in particular with the Total group), French-speaking and Francophile established in the region as well as with artists’ associations.
  • Preparation and submission of regular activity reports to the board of directors, the Alliance Française Foundation and the cooperation and cultural action advisor.

Requirements

  • Diplomas or professional experience recommended to perform the duties
  • Master 2 or equivalent.
  • Proven experience managing a public or private establishment in cultural institutions, organizing cultural events and setting up partnerships.
  • Good writing skills, in French and English, and ability to communicate in public.
  • Soft skills, taste for teamwork, loyalty and sense of common interest. Managerial sense. Knowledge or mastery of a local language would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the region as well.
