COUNSELOR EDUCATOR (Fixed Term Renewable)

The following vacancy is open to RESIDENTS IN NIGERIA.
Location: Maiduguri
Contract Period: definite (Subject to renew after a successful completion of the probation period)

Main Purpose

Perform counseling and/or education sessions to patients, following different medical and mental health MSF protocols and procedures, in order to improve their pychosocial condition.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic and administrative needs for patients.

  • Actively promote the availability of counselling services and carry out, individual or in group counselling, basic psycho educational sessions, to patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope.

  • Refer patients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary, in order to propose the best support available.

  • Participate in the creation of any material needed for counselling activities and look after it,

  • Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other counsellors, preserving confidentiality.

  • Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.

  • Take active part in trainings, supervisions/interventions and support the activities manager when necessary, in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health /psychosocial issues.

  • Discuss difficulties and problems in counselling with supervisor.

MSF Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Provide Routine counselling activities to the patients in addition to eligible participtans of the study.

  • Provide more education for caregivers who wants to go on LAMA.

  • Informed consent: obtain informed consent from Eligible study participants.

  • Ensure that application of ethical standards in line with MSF protocols for studies.

  • Support archiving and safe keeping of AMR study documents.

  • Coordination of Activities: assist the OR Nurse to coordinate AMR activities at the site.

  • Assist the OR nurse in tracking of eligible patients enrolled in the AMR study.

  • Support in admission of patients who meet criteria for the study.

  • Asist the site coordinator in report writing and routine updates of studies.

Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications:

Education

  • Counseling, social work, psychology or other similar degree/diploma.

Experience

  • 1 year experience essential. Experience with NGO desirable, previous knowledge with OR would be desirable.

  • Basic knowledge and speaking of more than one local language would be an advantage. (Hausa, Fulani, Shawa, Gamargu and Kanuri)

Languages

  • English, local language desirable

Knowledge

  • Essential computer literacy in MS Office packages (Word, Excel, internet, SharePoint, OneDrive)
