Community Volunteer at Society for Women Development & Empowerment of Nigeria (SWODEN)
Society for Women Development & Empowerment of Nigeria (SWODEN) is a non-discriminatory and not-for-profit Non-governmental organization. The organization was established in 1995 and registered with Corporate Affairs Commission to address current challenges faced by women and youth in accessing basic information and services at the community level that affects their development and also participation in policy development at both micro and macro level. Activities are drawn from their felt needs through grassroots participation and mobilization and use of community structures to ensure sustainability.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Community Volunteer
Location: Kurfi or Mashi LGAs, Katsina
Job type: Contract
Key Responsibilities
- Raise awareness in communities about the impact of sexual violence and the availability of survivor support services.
- Conduct community dialogues and sensitization sessions in collaboration with project staff.
- Assist in the safe and confidential identification of survivors and vulnerable individuals.
- Facilitate referrals to health, psychosocial, legal, and protection services using established referral pathways.
- Support the establishment and functioning of women and girls’ safe spaces.
- Mobilize community support for survivor reintegration and anti-stigma initiatives.
- Keep records of activities while maintaining strict confidentiality protocols.
- Report concerns or trends to project staff in line with safeguarding procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of secondary education; post-secondary education is an asset.
- Previous experience in community work, especially in protection or health, is desirable.
- Understanding of the cultural context and conflict dynamics in Katsina State.
- Ability to communicate fluently in Hausa and/or Fulfulde.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to survivor-centered and rights-based approaches.
- Sensitivity to gender, cultural, and conflict-related issues.
- Integrity, honesty, and respect for confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Willingness to travel within local communities.
- Resident of Kurfi or Mashi LGA.
Other Requirements:
- Nigerian citizenship or valid work permit.
- Strong commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confiden ality.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Team player with excellent communication and management skills.
