MAIN PURPOSE

To provide optimal preventive and psychosocial aid to people with mental health and psychosocial needs at the community level. You will follow MSF principles and standards to ensure patients receive the most appropriate support for their mental well-being.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assessments: Conduct brief psychosocial assessments to identify treatment barriers and risk factors.
  • Psychoeducation: Provide mental health and malnutrition education to patients and caregivers.
  • Support Activities: Lead psychostimulation and recreational activities in the Ambulatory Therapeutic Feeding Center (ATFC).
  • Identification & Referral: Identify patients in need of care, provide psychological first aid, and refer for further counseling.
  • Outreach & Tracing: Trace caregivers on follow-up care (including defaulters) and conduct home visits to support re-engagement in treatment.
  • Collaboration: Work with medical teams to deliver tailored educational messages to caregivers.
  • Reporting: Collect monitoring data daily and prepare regular activity reports for the supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Training in psychological first aid and basic counseling skills is desirable.
  • Experience: * Preferably from the beneficiary community and well-accepted.
    • Desired experience in community work (children, caregivers, and vulnerable populations) or social work.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and Hausa is essential.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of the affected population and strong social skills (listening, empathy, sensitivity).
  • Competencies: Teamwork, flexibility, results orientation, and a strong interest in helping vulnerable populations.
