About Center for Child Care and Human Development (C3HD)
C3HD is a Child-Centered and Women-Focused (CCWF) non-governmental, non-tribal, non-religious, and non-profit organization established in 2017. Our core mission is to transform the lives of women and children on the edges of society, helping them regain and pursue their dreams for sustainable development.
For over 5 years, operating in Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, and Kano States, C3HD acts as an agent for change. We respond to the needs of the most vulnerable communities, especially women, children, people with disabilities, and those affected by conflict and insurgency. Our work maximizes contributions to Healthcare and Wellbeing, Protection, Peace Building, and Economic Recovery/Livelihood. We employ the “protective communities’ approach” by mainstreaming safeguarding and protection across all our activities.
The Opportunity: Community Health Volunteer
We are seeking dedicated and locally knowledgeable Community Health Volunteers to support our health and wellbeing programs in Nguru, Yobe State. This volunteer role is crucial for linking the community with essential health services, promoting healthy behaviors, and ensuring the successful delivery of C3HD’s initiatives at the grassroots level.
Key Responsibilities
The Community Health Volunteer serves as the primary link between C3HD, the health facilities, and the community.
Community Mobilization & Health Promotion:
- Conduct community sensitization on key health topics including HIV, malaria, nutrition, maternal health, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene).
- Facilitate group discussions, household visits, and awareness campaigns.
- Conduct community and facility-based health education to empower beneficiaries.
Service Linkage and Referral:
- Support the identification and referral of vulnerable individuals and clients to appropriate health services.
- Encourage use of health services and support facility outreach activities and follow-up visits.
- Assist in emergency response activities when needed.
Accountability and Ethics:
- Sensitize communities on Complaint & Feedback Mechanisms (CFM).
- Promote awareness on PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) and safeguarding reporting channels.
- Uphold organizational safeguarding standards and ethical conduct at all times.
Documentation and Collaboration:
- Maintain proper documentation of mobilization activities, record attendance, referrals, and key activities daily.
- Submit weekly reports to supervisors.
- Work collaboratively with community leaders, facility staff, and other team members at all levels.
- Participate actively in all required trainings, meetings, and supportive supervision sessions.
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications
- Required: Minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE).
- Required: Fluency in local languages and deep familiarity with the community.
- Advantage: Certificate in Community Health, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Advantage: Training in Health Promotion, PSEA, Safeguarding, GBV, WASH, or First Aid.
Experience
- Minimum 6 months to 1 year experience working directly with communities.
- Experience in community mobilization, health promotion, or outreach.
- Experience with NGOs, CBOs, or humanitarian programs is an added advantage.
