Locations: Gombe (CAPAC002547) & Jigawa (CAPAC002548), Nigeria
Job Type: Full-Time / Hybrid
Application Deadline: January 15, 2026
Reports To: State Team Lead
The Impact of Your Expertise
In the pursuit of global health equity, the strength of a community is directly tied to the skill and confidence of its frontline healthcare providers. In Northern Nigeria, where maternal and child health outcomes are a critical priority, the ability to deliver standardized, high-quality care can redefine the future of entire generations. As a Capacity Building Officer for the CARMNIS project, you will play a vital role in this transformation, ensuring that community health workers are equipped with the life-saving competencies needed to provide dignified healthcare to those who need it most.
Job Summary
The Capacity Building Officer is a technical leader responsible for the comprehensive design, coordination, and execution of professional development and mentorship initiatives within the CARMNIS project. Your mission is to ensure that Community-Based Health Workers (CBHWs) achieve high-level clinical proficiency through standardized training and continuous coaching. By bridging the gap between national health policies and grassroots implementation, you will drive significant improvements in service quality and patient outcomes across supported Local Government Areas (LGAs).
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Frameworks & Policy Integration
- Lead the operationalization of the CARMNIS capacity-building framework, establishing rigorous training standards and mentorship protocols.
- Partner with state government officials to embed health worker learning plans into existing Annual Operational Plans (AOPs) and primary healthcare structures.
- Ensure all community-based educational activities are fully compliant with Nigeria’s national RMNCH+N and PHC policies.
Instructional Design & Educational Tools
- Spearhead the creation and adaptation of competency-based training materials, visual job aids, and clinical checklists tailored for adult learners.
- Introduce simulation-based instruction and modern coaching methodologies to transition from theoretical learning to practical, hands-on mastery.
- Develop supportive supervision frameworks that prioritize ongoing skill reinforcement and service excellence in the field.
Operational Execution & Mentorship Support
- Orchestrate the logistics and technical delivery of initial training sessions, refresher courses, and community-based coaching cycles.
- Strengthen the technical capabilities of facility-level mentors and supervisors to ensure a sustainable “culture of learning” within the health system.
- Provide direct technical coaching and deliver specialized training modules to frontline providers.
Performance Monitoring & Knowledge Management
- Design and implement skill-based evaluations, OSCEs, and pre/post-tests to track provider progression and identify areas for intervention.
- Synthesize project successes and training innovations into high-quality technical briefs, case studies, and knowledge products for external stakeholders.
- Consolidate field data into monthly and quarterly progress reports, ensuring all activities meet donor standards and safeguarding requirements.
Required Qualifications & Professional Skills
- Academic Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Health Education, or Community Health. A Master’s degree is highly preferred.
- Relevant Experience: At least 7 years of professional experience in capacity building within the PHC, CBHW, or RMNCH sectors.
- Sector Expertise: Proven success in implementing competency-based mentoring models and supportive supervision within the Nigerian public health landscape.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in training design for adult learners and simulation-based instruction.
- Language Skills: Full professional fluency in English and the local language (Hausa) is mandatory.
- Software Skills: Foundational proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with digital project management tools.
Why This Role is Vital
The Capacity Building Officer is essential because they transform “attendance” into “competence.” In a humanitarian context, it is not enough for health services to exist; they must be delivered by providers who are technically proficient and culturally sensitive. This role ensures that international health standards are localized effectively, reducing medical errors and building a resilient community health system that thrives on trust and technical excellence.
