CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, not-for-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in distress, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.
MSF has been active in Katsina since February 2021 after carrying an exploratory mission that end up with an opening of the project.
Currently, MSF is running an ITFC (Inpatient Therapeutic Feeding Centre) in Katsina in the Kofar Sauri PHCC and 4 ATFC (Ambulatory Therapeutic Feeding Centre) including three in Jibia LGA (Magama, Daddara, Riko,) and one in Katsina City (Kofar Marusa).
MAIN PURPOSE
Performing autonomously and following up, the maintenance and correct repair of the biomed equipment in the project/mission and ensuring regularly that the usual medical maintenance and cleaning are done properly according to MSF standards and procedures, in order to ensure the equipment are in perfect running conditions
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Performing and carrying out, all necessary complex / advanced installation, maintenance and repair of MSF biomedical equipment and ensuring that as few items are out of service at any given time. This inclues the following tasks :
- Organizing and participating in the installation of biomedical equipment
- Through MEMO Software, follow the schedule and carrying out Preventive and Corrective Maintenance works for the Equipment according to the MSF and/or manufacturer’s protocols, manuals, and recommendations and ensuring that cleaning and simple maintenance are properly carried out by medical staff.
- Reporting any issues or problems on biomed equipment to his/her supervisor and proposing solutions (training of staff on a device, operating procedures, etc.). If maintenance work requires further assistance, documentation or additional tools, this shall be requested from and provided by his/her supervisor.
- Participating in organizing user training where required for both Medical and Non-Medical Staff.
- Managing the stock of consumable items, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage.
- Conducting physical monthly Inventory of all Biomed Equipment in all locations and updating in MEMO.
- Responsible for the Equipment and Tools (excluding Extinguishers), checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.
- Keeping working area clean and tidy.
- Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to maintenance are always completed (including date of intervention, replaced parts, problems and solutions) and preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.
- Working together with Pharmacy Team, responsible for generating and ordering the biomed equipment and consumables International Order.
- Testing and Installation of new biomed equipment in the Hospital Wards and ensuring it is functioning in accordance to medical protocols
- Participate in the weekly medical and logistics meetings
- Ensure ward round is done every mornning in all hospital wards with the med team to ascertain equipment status and to increase availabilty of biomed service
- Support the medical team to ensure that equipment tracking tool is appropriately used in all units of the hospital
- In collaboration with the IPC department ensure the control of good practices of use of biomed devices
- Routinely follow up on user documentations (filling and filing of maintenance documents) to ensure that they are done after completion of each maintenance respectively.
- Carry out update on the biomedical protocol folders in all units of the hospital by replacing all missing documents on quatrely basis
- Ensure adequate monitoring and control of equipment upon reception at the project pharmacy, liaise with the pharmacy team and biomed specialist for inventory update on the data base
- Ensure that all equipment passes through the biomed office before installation for use for proper inventory update.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
Diploma as Biomedical technician preferred
Diploma as mechanical or electrical technician
Demonstrable technical skills and understanding
Experience
Experience in a technical field. (Minimum 2 years’ experience)
Pedagogical skills are an asset
Languages
Hausa and English Languages essential. Mission language is desirable.
Knowledge
Know and understand all the biomedical devices present on the project(s) including the operating principle, use and technical documentation, of each biomedical equipment on the project/mission

CONTRACT: Fixed Term
208 working hours per month.
REMUNERATION
According to MSF salary scale plus 13th month allowance equivalent to 1 month of gross salary.
