The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has been a key player in humanitarian interventions since its establishment in 1960. Position Overview:

As the Assistant Coordinator, Humanitarian Diplomacy, you will play a pivotal role in influencing national and international policies to enhance the humanitarian impact of the Nigerian Red Cross. Your work will help position the NRCS as a key partner and agent of humanitarian change. Working under the Secretary General (SG), you will lead advocacy efforts and policy engagements across major national and international platforms, including UN bodies, ECOWAS, the AU, and various NGOs.

Key Responsibilities:

Your role will include a broad range of activities, primarily centered around Humanitarian Diplomacy and policy advocacy. Some of your main duties will include:

  • Diplomatic Engagements: Leading and representing NRCS in diplomatic circles, both domestically and internationally, on behalf of the Secretary General (SG).

  • Humanitarian Diplomacy: Spearheading initiatives to advance NRCS’s strategic priorities through diplomacy and policy advocacy.

  • Policy Engagement: Identifying and capitalizing on policy opportunities that align with NRCS’s mission, including those related to Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • Advocacy and Representation: Developing and executing advocacy plans, representing NRCS at key events, and ensuring the organization’s leadership is well-positioned in international forums.

  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Working with a wide range of stakeholders including UN bodies, ECOWAS, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other intergovernmental organizations to promote policies supporting humanitarian principles.

  • Strategic Partnerships: Building and maintaining strong partnerships with influential decision-makers and stakeholders in both national and international humanitarian and development sectors.

  • Research and Policy Briefs: Conducting research on key topics and developing policy briefs to promote NRCS’s positions.

Who We Are Looking For:

The ideal candidate will have a background in law and experience in Humanitarian Diplomacy or related fields. Key qualifications and skills include:

  • Educational Requirements:

    • First Degree in Law (LLB, BL) from a recognized institution.

    • Master’s degree in a related field is highly desirable.

    • Membership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

  • Experience:

    • 7+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably within the international humanitarian and development sectors.

    • Proven expertise in Humanitarian Diplomacy, advocacy, policy development, and strategy formulation.

    • Familiarity with working alongside global organizations such as the UN, ECOWAS, AU, and development banks.

    • Experience within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is a plus.

  • Skills:

    • Fluency in English, French, and Arabic.

    • Proven success in policy advocacy and the ability to influence decision-making processes.

    • Ability to develop and implement complex policy campaigns with strategic objectives.
