BOAID Humanitarian Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that provides life-saving humanitarian aid and sustainable development interventions in Nigeria, with a focus on displaced and conflict-affected populations. Our core sectors include CCCM, Shelter & NFI, Nutrition, and WASH.
To support our mission and strategic growth, BOAID is establishing an Advisory Board comprised of highly experienced and passionate professionals who will guide, mentor, and advocate for the organisation at both national and international levels.
2. Purpose of the Advisory Board
The purpose of the Advisory Board is to:
Provide expert advice and strategic guidance to BOAID leadership.
Offer insights on emerging humanitarian trends, donor priorities, and policy issues.
Serve as ambassadors and advocates to support resource mobilisation and networking.
Contribute to the effectiveness, credibility, and growth of BOAID.
3. Key Responsibilities
Attend quarterly advisory board meetings (in person or virtually).
Provide non-binding strategic and technical guidance to the Executive Director and senior management.
Review and advise on programs, policies, and long-term strategies.
Support fundraising efforts by connecting BOAID to potential donors, foundations, or partners.
Offer mentorship and capacity building to BOAID’s senior team and Board of Trustees.
Advocate for BOAID’s mission in professional and public settings.
Assist in reviewing annual reports, external publications, or donor communications when needed.
4. Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
Recognized expertise in one or more of BOAID’s priority areas: CCCM, Shelter/NFI, Nutrition, WASH, Humanitarian Coordination, or Development.
A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in humanitarian aid, public policy, international development, government, or academia.
Strong networks within the humanitarian and development community, including donors, INGOs, government agencies, or UN bodies.
Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles and community-centred development.
Desirable:
Prior board or advisory committee experience.
Fluency in English (written and spoken); understanding of Hausa or Kanuri is an advantage.
Familiarity with the Nigerian humanitarian and development landscape.
5. Term and Commitment
Advisory Board Members serve for a one-year renewable term.
Expected time commitment: approx. 10 to 20 hours per quarter, including reading materials and attending virtual/in-person meetings.
This is an unpaid, voluntary position. Travel expenses for official meetings may be reimbursed where applicable.
6. Core Values and Expectations
Advisory Board Members are expected to:
Act with integrity and in the best interest of BOAID and its beneficiaries.
Maintain confidentiality on sensitive organizational matters.
Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any affiliations that may affect impartiality.
Uphold the humanitarian principles of neutrality, impartiality, independence, and humanity.
7. Safeguarding and Code of Conduct
All Advisory Board members are expected to sign and adhere to BOAID’s Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policy. The organisation has a zero-tolerance policy toward abuse, exploitation, and corruption.
