Position Summary

  • The Investment & Financial Services Officer will play a critical role in strengthening the financial ecosystem that supports Nigeria’s agricultural mechanisation value chain.
  • The role focuses on mobilising private capital, supporting rural mechanisation entrepreneurs (MSPs), enabling cooperative financial inclusion, and ensuring the sustainability of grant and loan mechanisms deployed through the project.
  • This position requires a strategic, highly analytical, and relationship-driven professional capable of working simultaneously with investors, financial institutions, cooperatives, and rural entrepreneurs.

Key Responsibilities
Investment Mobilisation & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with Private Investors, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), Commercial Banks, Pension Funds, Impact Investors, and high-net-worth individuals to attract capital into the mechanisation value chain.
  • Design and Pitch Investment opportunities for tractors, implements, service hubs, and rural mechanisation MSMEs.
  • Develop investment briefs, pitch decks, concept notes, and financial models to support capital mobilisation efforts.
  • Maintain a pipeline of investors and strategically match opportunities with appropriate financial actors.

Financing Access for MSPs (Mechanisation Service Providers):

  • Work directly with Rural Entrepreneurs across Nigeria to secure financing for tractor ownership, expansion of service provision, and acquisition of mechanisation equipment.
  • Support MSPs in loan applications, credit assessments, repayment structuring, and compliance with financial institution requirements.
  • Provide targeted mentorship to strengthen MSPs’ financial health, book-keeping, and operational efficiency.

Loan Recovery & Grant Repayment Management:

  • Monitor loan utilisation and repayment progress across all participating MSPs and cooperatives.
  • Track and recover partial grants given as guarantees or capital support, ensuring adherence to project repayment frameworks.
  • Implement early-warning systems for default risks and recommend mitigation interventions.

Cooperative Financial Inclusion & Account Management Support:

  • Facilitate bank account opening, digital wallet setup, and onboarding of cooperatives and MSPs into formal financial systems.
  • Ensure financial literacy and operational training for cooperative leaders and members.
  • Work with banks to simplify account management processes suitable for rural groups.

Needs Assessment & Financial Diagnostics:

  • Conduct structured financial needs assessments for MSPs, cooperatives, and mechanisation clusters.
  • Develop financial gap reports and tailor financing strategies for different categories of entrepreneurs.
  • Use measurable financial indicators to monitor improvements in MSME viability.

Financial Advisory & Opportunity Mapping:

  • Provide continuous guidance to MSPs and cooperatives on financial opportunities, grants, subsidies, credit schemes, and risk-mitigation tools.
  • Track emerging agricultural and MSME financing windows (local and international) and align beneficiaries accordingly.
  • Train field teams and entrepreneurs on basic financial literacy, costing, pricing, and savings culture.

Grants & Project Expansion Financing:

  • Support the mobilisation of donor grants, blended finance packages, matching grants, and catalytic capital for project expansion.
  • Support in preparing reporting documents for donors and funding partners.
  • Coordinate with program leadership to channel investment toward scalable mechanisation innovations.
  • Collaborate with Programs team on managing and training of Mechanization Service Providers.

Investment Promotion Events & Outreach:

  • Plan, host, and facilitate investment promotion events, roadshows, investor roundtables, and financial inclusion workshops.
  • Represent the organisation in conferences, forums, and external stakeholder engagements.
  • Develop communication materials showcasing project impact and investment opportunities across the mechanisation value chain.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Agribusiness, Development Studies, or related field (master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in SME finance, microfinance, investment mobilisation, or agricultural value chain finance.
  • Strong understanding of Nigeria’s agricultural mechanisation ecosystem (advantageous).
  • Experience working with rural enterprises, cooperatives, or MSMEs.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to translate technical financial concepts for non-financial audiences.
  • Strong financial modelling and analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently to rural locations.
