CONTEXT

Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, not-for-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in distress, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.
MSF has been active in Katsina since February 2021 after carrying an exploratory mission that end up with an opening of the project.

Currently, MSF is running an ITFC (Inpatient Therapeutic Feeding Centre) in Katsina in the Kofar Sauri PHCC and 4 ATFC (Ambulatory Therapeutic Feeding Centre) including three in Jibia LGA (Magama, Daddara, Riko,) and one in Katsina City (Kofar Marusa).

MAIN PURPOSE

Supporting the Watsan Supervisor in the implementation, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting of Water Hygiene Sanitation activities and infrastructure in the project according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to improve health and living conditions of the target population

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Carrying out tasks directly related to the Watsan activities such as construction and maintenance of infrastructures in the project according to MSF protocols and standards concerning the operation of water supply, waste management and excreta disposal, hygiene and infection control.
  • Ensuring the cleaning and maintenance of the Watsan structures and, when applicable, of the medical facilities.
  • Identifying, recruiting, training and supervising daily labourers or Watsan agents for Watsan activities
  • Informing the Watsan Supervisor of any difficulties, anomalies and problems that may affect the normal functioning of activities and tasks in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Assisting the Watsan Supervisor in Watsan data collection and reporting, as well as maintaining updated files and records of assigned project activities
  • Being responsible for equipment, tools, and consumables, verifying that they are safely used and maintained. Reporting to the supervisor any need for renewal and the weekly/monthly consumption
  • Preparation of chlorine solution (daily) and conduct periodic water tests to ensure residual chlorine/pH levels/turbidity are to standard including preparation/keeping accurate records monthly
  • Reporting to Watsan Supervisor/Hospital Logistics Manager/LTL any challenges and matters as they arise or any incidents that may compromise the safety of the Project activities.
  • Providing monthly report on his activities (achievement, challenges and action plan).
  • Supporting and Supervising Indoor Residual Spraying/fumigation of all MSF premises (Office, Guest House & Warehouse) and facilities (ITFC/ATFC)
  • Supporting treatment, cleaning and refilling drinking water bottles and distributing (loading/offloading) to all locations/end-user
  • Follow up with water production and consumption in MSF facilities

REQUIREMENTS

Education

Technical certification or proven background, desirable specialization in water and sanitation

Experience

Previous experience in technical works

Languages

Hausa and English languages essential. Mission language is desirable

REMUNERATION
According to MSF salary scale plus 13th month allowance equivalent to 1 month of gross salary
