In the face of humanitarian crises, medical leadership is the difference between a reactive response and a life-saving strategy. As a Medical Activity Manager, you will hold a pivotal role in navigating the complex health challenges of Anambra State, particularly in the sensitive and critical field of Sexual Violence (SV) care and emergency disaster preparedness. Your expertise will not only heal individual patients but will also build resilient systems capable of withstanding floods, disease outbreaks, and medical exclusion. This is an invitation to lead with clinical precision and deep compassion at the forefront of medical humanitarianism.
Job Summary
The Medical Activity Manager (MAM) provides high-level technical oversight and strategic management for all medical operations within the Anambra project. You will lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care for survivors of sexual violence while simultaneously maintaining a state of high readiness for emergency responses (EPREP). Your mission is to ensure that every medical intervention is ethically sound, culturally sensitive, and aligned with the highest international clinical standards.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Strategy
- Technical Guidance: Act as the primary clinical advisor to the Project Medical Coordinator, offering expert decision-making support and ensuring project strategies are medically robust.
- Protocol Implementation: Guarantee that all clinical activities adhere strictly to international protocols, focusing on quality assurance, infection prevention, and patient safety.
- Patient-Centered Care: Champion the principles of informed consent, privacy, and non-discrimination, ensuring that survivors of sexual violence receive holistic medical and psychosocial support.
Emergency Preparedness & Surveillance (EPREP)
- Early Warning Systems: Coordinate risk assessments and surveillance activities to identify potential outbreaks or natural hazards (e.g., floods) before they escalate.
- Response Planning: Develop and update rapid response plans for infectious diseases (such as Lassa fever) and other context-specific medical emergencies.
- Regional Mapping: Lead efforts to identify service gaps and map health actors across the Awka metropolis and neighboring regions to ensure seamless emergency coordination.
Operational & Resource Management
- Pharmacy & Biomedical Oversight: Supervise the medical supply chain, ensuring rational drug use, efficient stock management, and the proper maintenance of biomedical equipment.
- Data-Driven Decisions: Oversee the Health Management Information System (HMIS), ensuring that medical data is accurately captured, analyzed, and used to improve project outcomes.
- Staff Health: Serve as the medical focal point for the team’s own health, managing insurance referrals, risk analysis, and preventative measures for mission staff.
People & Stakeholder Management
- Team Development: Lead the recruitment, training, and professional mentoring of medical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and high performance.
- Strategic Networking: Represent the organization in Health Sector Working Groups and engage with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to align project priorities.
Why This Role is Important
The MAM role is the bridge between organizational medical standards and the reality of the field. In Anambra, your work in Sexual Reproductive Health provides a lifeline to survivors who might otherwise face stigma and neglect. Furthermore, your focus on emergency preparedness ensures that when a disaster strikes—be it a flood or an epidemic—the response is immediate, professional, and organized, ultimately reducing preventable mortality in the region.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Educational Foundation: A Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from a recognized institution is essential.
- Specialization: Specialized training or experience in Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH), Women’s Health, or Tropical Medicine is highly desired. Additional public health training (MNCH, GBV, or Adolescent Health) is an asset.
- Clinical Experience: * At least 5 years of post-qualification medical experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in Sexual and Reproductive Health and the management of infectious diseases.
- Humanitarian Background: Previous experience with MSF or other international NGOs in emergency settings or SV projects is a significant advantage.
