The WOCHAD Initiative (Women, Children, Aged, and Disabled Initiative) is a registered, community-based non-for-profit committed to significantly improving the rural livelihoods of marginalized populations—including orphans, disabled persons, the aged, young mothers, and widows—across Benue and Ebonyi States. Our work spans critical development areas: from WASH and sustainable agriculture to comprehensive primary health care and human rights advocacy.

We are seeking a highly experienced, strategic leader to provide technical oversight and guidance for our health and nutrition portfolio.

The Opportunity: Technical Director

Job Title: Technical Director Location: Abakaliki, Ebonyi State Employment Type: Contract

The Technical Director serves as the expert authority, driving the technical quality, innovation, and strategic direction of all nutrition-related components within WOCHAD’s projects. This role requires an individual capable of bridging high-level policy with effective community-level implementation, ensuring that all programs are evidence-based and achieve maximum impact.

Key Responsibilities

The Technical Director will focus on technical excellence and strategic alignment:

  • Technical Leadership: Providing overarching technical guidance for all nutrition components within the projects, ensuring alignment with national and international best practices.
  • Strategy and Quality: Leading the development of evidence-based strategies, high-quality implementation guidelines, and rigorous technical quality assurance protocols across project teams.
  • External Liaison: Serving as the primary technical representative and liaison with key state partners, including SPHDA, SMOH, the Nutrition Technical Working Group (TWG), and other development partners.
  • MEL and Reporting: Supporting Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) processes, ensuring accurate tracking and interpretation of core nutrition indicators, and reviewing all technical reports and learning documentation.
  • Innovation: Guiding the identification and integration of innovations and best practices to sustainably strengthen community and facility-level nutrition systems.
  • Capacity Building: Overseeing the technical supervision, mentorship, and capacity-building efforts for project staff.

Requirements: Expert Profile

This position demands significant, proven technical and strategic leadership experience:

  • Education: A Master’s degree is required in Public Health, Nutrition, Health Policy, Medicine, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 7–10 years’ technical leadership experience in donor-funded nutrition or Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) programs.
  • Expertise: Deep expertise in Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), community health systems strengthening, and the implementation of evidence-based nutrition programming.
  • Skills: Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking, high-level technical writing, complex data interpretation, and effective stakeholder engagement and mentorship.
